It's projects and stories like these that always make me uncomfortable when people say in absolute terms that programming isn't art, mostly because a lot of people just aren't that interested in learning programming outside of immediate utilitarian need (which is sad tbh)
Recently attended an in-person handheld game console hackathon. I wrote a raycaster by hand. Someone wearing a “I ❤️ slop” tshirt saw mine and said “oh I wrote a ray caster too!”. They showed me. It was a ray *tracer* and claude did all the work. The person didn’t know basic graphics terms. They couldn’t answer basic questions about how it worked, could only talk about their prompting harness. Sad how AI is ruining the craft and community for people that actually like to program and have spent their lives getting good at it.
Seeing the AAA gaming industry push for "You will own nothing" just for gamers to hit the uno reverse on Sony and make the entire PS library free and the ps5 backwards compatible karma a bitch lmfao god bless
i guess i understand the benefits of using ai for speeding up gamedev, but yesterday i was working on a feature i didn’t know how to make, and after like…an hour of research i got it, and now i know it forever. that feeling is unbeatable man i just like getting better at things.
"i hope you go to hell" is basic. "i hope your favourite game of all time gets a shitty ai recompile made by people who don't give a shit about the source material" is fresh. it's terrifying. and it just happened to me
