I think gardening as a way of learning about nutrition is a great skill! Growing food at home can be a fun and interactive way of introducing fresh fruits and vegetables into your diet. This is a great resource to have if you want to get into gardening! @beh353#beh353
Our SNAP-Ed programs nationwide teach nutrition through gardening! Families gain skills including when to water veggies and how to start growing food at home. Check out these resources about how to get started! https://t.co/fnqqn5L9Wr #NationalGardenMonth
@AishHannahA@beh353 I think this is a great idea! Applying the knowledge we learned to both sides of healthcare shows how important it is for everyone to learn how develop healthy nutrition habits, whether they’re a patient or a healthcare professional. @beh353#beh353
As a future healthcare provider, I plan to carry with me the knowledge that there are so many barriers to accessing good nutrition and I will be mindful of these in my approaches to help patients achieve a balanced diet that meets their specific nutrition needs. @beh353#beh353
@EmmaDArpinoRD thank you for a great lecture! I liked how you pointed out the misconception between fresh and frozen produce because I hear about this a lot. I buy some vegetables frozen because they are just as healthy and don’t go bad before I can use them! @beh353#beh353
This is a great resource for people looking to eat healthy on a budget! I think a lot of people face financial barriers when it comes to eating healthy, which makes tips and tools such as these all the more important to have accessible. @beh353#beh353

@suzanneap01@beh353 This is a great example of how impactful diet can be in terms of overall health. It’s not just about maintaining a certain weight/BMI, but is connected to so many other aspects of health, including ones that may mediate symptoms in conditions such as Parkinson’s. @beh353#beh353
https://t.co/QkpRtwzCUW I like this article because it gives parents an easy guide to feeding their toddlers nutritious and appropriate foods for their age group. It provides a friendly overview for both nutrition and activity and even gives a few helpful tips! @beh353#beh353
I wanted to repost this because today is World Health Day and I think it’s super important that nutrition be touted as one of the major focuses in health! When talking about universal access to good health, quality nutrition should absolutely be included! @beh353#beh353
The theme for World Health Day focuses on universal access to quality health services, education, safe water, clean air, good nutrition, and more. #WorldHealthDay2024 https://t.co/ci6LrOvXWO
@AishHannahA@beh353 I think this is a great article! I love how it breaks down the daily needs by age group, giving parents a detailed guide of what nutrients and food groups their children need! It’s also very detailed, yet written so that it can be understood by the general public! @beh353#beh353
The effect of weight-based bullying is often times severe and long-lasting. It can negatively impact other aspects of an individual’s life, such as worsening their self-image, mental health, views of overweight people, and in some cases their own eating habits. @beh353#beh353
@Seasiakong @beh353 I completely agree and can see why patients are hesitant to seek medical care for health conditions, especially when these patients have had terrible, discriminatory experiences in the past where their health was overlooked and they didn’t feel heard. @beh353#beh353
The article showed me how dehumanizing it is to just lecture patients about losing weight and the importance of having actual conversations with patients to learn what their current lifestyle habits are and working with them to make a healthy, realistic plan. @beh353#beh353
World Obesity Day was a few weeks ago, but I like how this short clip clarifies some of the misconceptions around obesity, including its connections to mental health and other health conditions and how it’s much more complex than just eating healthy and exercise. @beh353#beh353
One thing that stood out to me from the clip we watched was the prevalence of fat shaming and how it contributes to a vicious cycle of overeating. This goes to show how complex and diverse the contributing factors of obesity are; it’s never just one cause. @beh353#beh353
@alin0462964@beh353 Addressing or preventing childhood obesity is an action point with growing urgency. This is especially true, considering, according to our lectures this week, that the onset of obesity in childhood makes it significantly more likely to continue into adulthood. @beh353#beh353
I think this is super important! I think one of the barriers to eating healthy is thinking one doesn’t like healthy foods, but if kids are exposed to nutritious options in a safe environment, they’ll be more likely to choose those foods in the future. @beh353#beh353
School meals should be healthy AND delicious! Food manufacturers @Cargill, @GeneralMills and Bongard are working to modernize nutritious options. During a recent visit, FNS officials reviewed new prospective menu items that include lower sugar and sodium.
@isabelladef44@beh353 I definitely agree with you on this point. As full time students, money is often really limited. The stress of having to make sure that we are staying within budget can push students to want to opt for the cheaper options, which can often be the less healthy ones. @beh353#beh353
A barrier I chose was relative cheapness of unhealthy foods. I feel like I often see ads promoting fast food or snack foods, that make it seem like a cheaper, easier option compared to healthy foods that require time and effort in addition to the higher price. @beh353#beh353
Since we’ve been discussing vitamins and minerals this week, I’ve been looking a lot more at this section on food labels and this one actually surprised me. I didn’t realize how much Vitamin A and C were in chili. I would have guessed a lot lower daily percentage. @beh353#beh353
