I am done with this shit. It is over. The state of engineering right now is horrible. It has been half a month since I started a new role at a big company. Nobody knows anything here. The specs, code, tests, PRDs, tickets, resolution of those tickets, reports, etc., everything is made by Claude Code. Nobody on my team likes this. They are being forced to ship as much as they can. I have heard multiple times from higher management that pushing code is not a bottleneck, so why are we slow? People are working 12 to 13 hours a day just to press enter. Nobody is reading anything. Humans in corporate are doing nothing on their own. Everyone, literally everyone, from an L1 to an L7 engineer here is doing the same thing. Talk to Claude. There is no sense of victory. Nobody is resolving bugs. In reality, nobody is thinking anymore. Everything is done by LLMs. It is so soul-sucking. I would not mind it, to be honest, if we were at least given the time to check out the code and see what is going where. But no, the goal is to just ship. No matter what happens.

We’re excited to announce our first open-source grantee: @fuma_nama, the creator of Fumadocs. Fumadocs is a framework designed to be “breakable,” taking a minimal and composable approach for developers to shape and build the perfect docs.

The framework’s breakout popularity (13k+ stars, 900k weekly downloads of Fumadocs-core on npm, used by Vercel, shadcn/ui, and BetterAuth) is a testament to its first-rate developer experience.

We sat down with Fuma for his first-ever interview to learn about what inspired his open-source projects and the ethos behind Fumadocs. We learned all the details of how he learned to code from looking at files, his fascinating takes on “opinionated” software and abstraction, how he built the iconic TOC slider, and his philosophy on docs reader experience. (Did you know he just graduated high school?)

We shipped new docs at @generaltxn today. They run on @fuma_nama's Fumadocs, a highly customizable React documentation framework, and the redesign is built on Fuma Nama's principles.

Fumadocs is built to be, in his words, a docs framework you can break. Instead of enforcing an opinionated aesthetic, the focus is on composability and functionality under the hood. You can reshape the parts you need and leave the rest alone, and it still works.

In that spirit, I rebuilt the sidebar around his best trick. His table-of-contents slider traces the outline as an SVG path, masks it, and slides a highlight along it. Our sidebar rails now work the same way: one masked path per section, bending into a folder's children, with the current-page marker sliding along the indent when you click.

He said of the original, "People might not notice, I suppose." Those are the small details worth doing anyway.

The rest follows his view that docs pages are for reading; the eye-catching UI belongs on the landing page. We replaced a cluttered top bar with a minimal floating dock, made the color highlighting clearer, and gave each page more breathing room. Every page has a Copy page button that hands the markdown to an LLM, and every page is also served as plain markdown alongside a site-wide llms.txt, because, as he puts it, "less complexity is much better for AI."

If you’re not reading the code, whether explicitly or through agentic inquiry, one or more of these is true:

○ You’re a beginner
○ Software is throwaway
○ You’re prototyping
○ You have no users / revenue
○ You’re taking on debt & risk
○ Your problems are basic

And btw. All of this is fine. But the reality is that models are still not at the “full autonomy” stage yet.

They make rookie mistakes, they go down bad architectural paths. I just had the best model in the world add a nonsensical 700ms delay to “settle” something and it told me “you’re right, I was cargo-culting” 🤨

I am on the camp that this need will diminish more and more. Most code is indeed going to be assembly-like. But we also have the global internet and software infrastructure riding on these models and narrative, and we have to respect that.
