@cullenroche I don’t see why this same thinking wouldn’t extend to macro/country level. Entire sectors will be wrong about future demand/supply and this will reverberate through entire economy. I’m hesitant to attribute that to emotion. Sometimes we just don’t know.

@cullenroche Boom-bust cycles exist in all sorts of smaller markets (e.g., take your pick of petrochemicals) with relatively small numbers of players all seemingly acting rationally. I think in world of imperfect information, cycles are inevitable. You cannot perfectly predict future.

All of these new shares go to the new investor, so the old investor is left with a much lower ownership percentage (because more shares are outstanding) and a lower value per share.

@waitbutwhy @slav567 @Awesomecloss Easiest way to think about it is in (x,y) terms. So the start point is 30 cm displaced horizontally and 10 cm displaced vertically from the honey. because it can only travel on surfaces parallel or perpendicular to the x,y axes, it has to, at a minimum, go 40 cm.

@johnarnold Will be interesting to see how shorter asset lifetimes associated with renewables comes into play. As permitting for non renewable plants becomes more difficult, I suspect the existing gas plants will see significant value appreciation.

@jasoncrawford The systems that exist around cars are FAR more chaotic and unpredictable than those around airplanes. Air travel is incredibly safe because the systems are designed with huge safety tolerances, at significant cost. You must consider operators + operating environment.

Apparently Iran sold 74,000 artillery shells to Russia for $1.7M, or $23 a shell! I would've been off by two orders of magnitude if I guessed the price.
