🚨🚨So happy to share the latest from @lynchielydia lab in @NatMetabolism. Here we show that the source of dietary fat changes the ability of immune cells to combat tumor growth in obesity and that some fats (🥥🌴🫒) might better support anti-tumor function.

Researchers led by Ludwig @Princeton's @lynchielydia have discovered that in obese people, who are at high risk for many cancers, a diet rich in animal fats—but not plant-derived fats—suppresses antitumor immunity and promotes cancer progression. https://t.co/lqSWyNFj5f

This means that dietary changes could be a new way to support cancer treatment in people with obesity or help prevent development of obesity-related cancers 🍽️🍽️
@HannahPrendevil@lynchielydia Also! I couldn’t have done this research without my fellowship from @NIDDKgov. @NIH funding makes discoveries like ours possible 🔬👩🏻🔬🧫
[2/3] @britta_phd@HannahPrendevil@lynchielydia show HFD composed of butter but not palm oil inhibits NK & CD8 T cell antitumor immunity via immunosuppressive long-chain acylcarnitine species that impair glycolysis & reduced OXPHOS
Super excited to share my PhD work, out now in @Nature. Here, myself, @lynchielydia, and all my wonderful co-authors explored the link between circadian rhythms, energy homeostasis and innate T cell function.

The best time with the best people - great science and fun (and dancing thanks to Jaclyn) at the campfire to end the retreat this year. Photos by @CathalHarmon
Being an excellent scientist is not a requirement for calling out harassment, abuse, or bad takes. Attitudes like this are one reason why trainees don’t speak up.
