Attended yesterday's Open Source AI Summit in the Presidio. A nice change from the usual downtown SF circuit. There's something about those historical grounds that sets a different tone.

Since the last OSAI I attended in Spring 2025, the conversation has shifted dramatically. We've moved from scratching the surface of agentic AI to mapping its full arc: chatbot era(22/23), reasoning era (24/25), agent era (26), and reckoning with what comes next: agents interacting and transacting with each other at scale.

The rally cry in SF is loud and clear: Open Source is not just wanted, it's necessary for humanity's future. The oversubscribed guest list and packed venue said as much.

I keep coming back to: AI is in its early crypto era.

The LLMs are the L1s and they have richly incentivized ecosystems designed to attract builders. The talent migration mirrors what we saw in crypto's formative years, except this time people are arriving with lessons and higher standards.

As agentic marketplaces take shape and users gain more choice, the message is simple: choose open source. And if you're building, build better, build open.
