APEX peroxidase is a versatile tool for proximity labeling and electron microscopy (EM) but its requirement for toxic H2O2 is a liability. We now report LaccID, a multicopper oxidase evolved from an ancestral fungal laccase that oxidizes aromatic substrates using non-toxic O2 instead of H2O2. We use LaccID for EM imaging of cultured cells and fly brains, and for proteomic mapping of the changing surface composition of T cells that engage with tumor cells via antigen-specific T cell receptors.

Another chance to join us at Birmingham. This time open also to ECRs and junior independent researchers. Genome biology is one of the priority areas (as is cancer and RNA biology). Have a look 😀. Get in touch 😀
Lots of engaging questions, insights, networking, and candid sharing of career experiences from all the fantastic speakers at the Early Career Symposium! Thankful to @BiochemSoc for organising! #careers#ECR#BiochemEvent
Dr Melanie Seaton, PhD 🎓
Today was the perfect graduation day and I was so lucky to celebrate this frankly massive achievement with my wonderful family, partner and friends. I’m so so grateful to you all. On to the next adventure!! 💖🎓💫
Dear all, here is a new paper describing some of Sophie’s lovely PhD work on KU80-binding motifs (KBMs) and replication stress. It’s very interesting (he said, totally unbiased)!

Congratulations to Dr Zac Sandy for passing his viva today 🎓🎉🎊🍾🥂 A big thank you to the examiners Drs Stefan Meyer and Alex Garvin for their help, time and excellent examining, and thank you also to Kiran Batta for jumping in as independent chair in the last minute!
Check out this project if you're interested in interdisciplinary research addressing how ubiquitin-like proteins regulate cell signalling in the context of the DNA damage response and cancer

Interested in early detection of #ovarian cancer and looking for a highly collaborative project?
Look no further than the #postdoc position now open in the @C_K_Schmidt group to identify Novel Early Markers for Ovarian cancer (NEMO). Apply and more detail: https://t.co/GSY6m26iGr
📢New #review on DUBs and ULPs in genome stability now available and open access in @Biochem_Journal#Biochemj@PPPublishing. We try to give an overview of Ub/UBL erasers in DNA damage response pathways and the mechanisms involved. Check it out! https://t.co/A1rqYg0xO0
We’re #hiring! Multiple #postdoc positions will be available in my lab to study DNA damage response signalling from June onwards. Get in touch with your CV if interested. Please RT!
A postdoc position is available to join the group as part of an international consortium to address bottlenecks in early detection of ovarian cancer. Have a look here to find out more and apply if you're interested: https://t.co/bEboq6l5qQ
Today in @Science_Magazine we report the laboratory evolution of compact degrons that enable targeted protein degradation triggered by an otherwise-inert small molecule, a multidisciplinary study that integrates organic chemistry, molecular glues, protein evolution, genome editing, and structural biology.
