Sparkly, swirly, and surprising 🌌
@ChandraXray data shows that this galaxy, Messier 83, is unusual. Over 20 of its supernova remnants – remains from star explosions – vary drastically in X-ray brightness. Typically, the remnants' brightness would fade slowly over time.

Imagine Trump ever being invited to join a photo like this — not in a million years.
Four presidents. Zero drama. Just smiles, respect, and a shared love of country. 🇺🇸
Astronomers may have found a new supernova remnant near the center of the Milky Way galaxy using data from @chandraxray. If confirmed, this would be one of the closest supernova remnants to the supermassive black hole in the Galactic Center!

"The fascination that I have for test flying comes from being able to go into an environment where we have an idea what's going to happen, but then you have to [make it] happen."

once I wrote a college essay about how calculus was so beautiful because it was all about change, and the change of change, and how things feel consistent at an instant but everything is always shifting around that instant. thought I was cooking but didn’t even get into the honors college. I think an English prof probably read the essay and didn’t get it

It’s #SunDay! Here’s your space weather report for the week of May 29 - June 4:
• 1 X-class flare
• 6 M-class flares
• 47 coronal mass ejections
• 0 geomagnetic storms
This video from NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) shows the week’s activity.
This week’s main event was the X-class flare on June 3, appearing at 2:26 in the video. Though that flare was this week’s brightest event, a few seconds before at 2:20 in the video, an M7-class flare erupts that might appear to the human eye to be even more impressive. In part, that’s because of the nice view of the burst of solar plasma (ultimately producing a coronal mass ejection) that erupts from the region right after the flare. Wow! 🤩

Unfortunately, the Russian side once again chooses war – everyone heard the response today. Weak response. He simply does not want to end the war.
I think many around the world were disappointed by that response. He does not want to change anything, and he does not want to admit that this war appeals only to him – and to those who are making money off him. They were all smiling very broadly today.
That means Russia must have less money, and there must be more pressure on Russia.
I thank everyone who is helping us. I thank everyone who stands with Ukraine and wants a real peace.
