So instead of huge tax breaks for people who own existing houses, what else could the Gov spend billions on per year?
Well, it used to build huge numbers of public housing, which unsurprisingly, made housing a lot cheaper.
Who'd have thought?

"Norway taxes the fossil fuel industry & gives kids free degrees...In Australia, we subsidise the fossil fuel industry and charge our kids a fortune to go to uni."
"Choices matter.”

Chevron paid $30 in income tax on $9,163,203,498 in revenue.
A pub feed for wrecking the planet.
They had enough spare change to donate $38,750 to Labor and $28,750 to the Liberals.
We need to fix this broken system.
Hey Australians, pretty much every dollar extra you pay for gas or electricity produced from gas goes to windfall profits for the 96% foreign LNG industry who are gouging us for our own gas.
96% of their profits go offshore and most of them pay little if any tax #auspol
When I asked #Putin at APEC 2007 in Sydney “What do you think of Australia - Is it what you expected?” He replied “I never think of Australia “ #RussiaUkraineConflict
Mr Morrison was warned for months about the need for RATs, but didn't order any until this week.
And as soon as the order was in, he had ads on tv about it.
If only he was as quick at governing as he is at marketing.
There have been a number of overview threads on the emerging variant designated as @PangoNetwork lineage B.1.1.529, @nextstrain clade 21K and @WHO Variant of Concern Omicron. I'm not going to attempt to be comprehensive here, but will highlight a few aspects of the data. 1/16
Last night at COP26 Barack Obama said “vote like your life depends on it, because it does.”
Today, Scott Morrison’s approval rating is the lowest it’s been since the bushfires.
Change is coming.
Morrison's alleged $2 billion "climate investment" is around 10% of the money he's spending to increase coal exports via the inland rail line to look after the Nats and his coal miner donors.
Last night, the government voted to allow money intended for ARENA - our renewable energy agency - to go to coal & gas corporations. Again.
The Glasgow COP26 Climate Summit is less than 2 weeks away.
We're trying to solve this crisis. The Coalition are hell-bent on fuelling it.
A brief reminder of the ACTUAL policies being pursued by Scott Morrison despite what the Press Gallery tells you about net zero:
- gas subsidies
- CoalKeeper electricity tax
- funds for the CCS scam
- funds for coal-fired power studies
- an $18 billion coal export subsidy
