I’ve seen and read a lot of crazy things about UVA over the past three years, but forcing Lawn residents to cut one inch off their door signs to meet speech regulations is pretty insane. Also seems to conflict with the spirit of the BOV’s free speech commitment…

@CTMathewes To me, given that administrators acknowledged and criticized the signs before new regulations were passed, it seems highly improbable (meaning impossible imo) for someone in Housing and Residence Life to have made the call without admin input

@CTMathewes President Ryan said he was “deeply disappointed” in a sign posted to a Lawn room door last fall that read “Fuck UVA” (among other things). A 2nd sign with a similar message was taken down in February. Then new proposed speech regulations were implemented. https://t.co/SYsjyJtsGb
