It's been 5 days of CES 2024, and the announcements have been wild.
Here are 10 reveals you don't want to miss from CES 2024 (days 4 & 5):

Network protocols are standard methods of transferring data between two computers in a network.
1. HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol)
HTTP is a protocol for fetching resources such as HTML documents. It is the foundation of any data exchange on the Web and it is a client-server protocol.
2. HTTP/3
HTTP/3 is the next major revision of the HTTP. It runs on QUIC, a new transport protocol designed for mobile-heavy internet usage. It relies on UDP instead of TCP, which enables faster web page responsiveness. VR applications demand more bandwidth to render intricate details of a virtual scene and will likely benefit from migrating to HTTP/3 powered by QUIC.
3. HTTPS (HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure)
HTTPS extends HTTP and uses encryption for secure communications.
4. WebSocket
WebSocket is a protocol that provides full-duplex communications over TCP. Clients establish WebSockets to receive real-time updates from the back-end services. Unlike REST, which always “pulls” data, WebSocket enables data to be “pushed”. Applications, like online gaming, stock trading, and messaging apps leverage WebSocket for real-time communication.
5. TCP (Transmission Control Protocol)
TCP is is designed to send packets across the internet and ensure the successful delivery of data and messages over networks. Many application-layer protocols build on top of TCP.
6. UDP (User Datagram Protocol)
UDP sends packets directly to a target computer, without establishing a connection first. UDP is commonly used in time-sensitive communications where occasionally dropping packets is better than waiting. Voice and video traffic are often sent using this protocol.
7. SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol)
SMTP is a standard protocol to transfer electronic mail from one user to another.
8. FTP (File Transfer Protocol)
FTP is used to transfer computer files between client and server. It has separate connections for the control channel and data channel.

Stop lying to yourself.
Nobody will ever come to you with a perfect specification.
Go and ask these questions:
1. What problem are you aiming to solve?
2. Who are the end-users?
3. What are the must-have functionalities?
4. Are there any nice-to-have features?
5. When you need this?
6. Does it need to work with any existing systems?
7. How many people will consume this? What are the plans for scaling?
How?
1. Speak straight with users.
2. Write the requirements and get feedback.
3. Classify features as must-have, should-have, or nice-to-have.
4. Create wireframes or mockups.
Getting a perfect spec for a project never happens.
You've got to dig in, talk to people, and figure out what's really needed.
Don't wait for a perfect plan to land in your lap—go out and help create it.

Product Management is not about:
- Asking customers about the requirements
- Writing detailed specifications
- Creating prototypes and wireframes
- Assigning tasks to developers
- Verifying and accepting the work of others
- Obsessing over velocity, deadlines, and roadmaps
- Mastering Scrum to perfection
- Acting like the CEO of the product
Anyone can do that.
It's about:
- Understanding customer's problems, needs, and desires
- Understanding the market and the business in depth
- Collaborating closely with engineers and designers
- Identifying opportunities, ideating solutions, and tackling the risks together
- Marrying customer goals and business goals
- Influencing others to work toward the common goal
- Being humble (it's ok not to be the smartest person in the room)
- Experimenting to validate assumptions
- Leading without authority
- Turning chaos into clarity
Start with these questions:
- Why are we building this thing?
- Why are we building it now?
- For whom are we building it?
- What's the unique value of our product?
- How is it aligned with the company's vision?
- How is it aligned with the business strategy?
- What does success look like? How can we measure it?
- What are the customer needs/jobs (functional, emotional, social)?
- How will it affect our customers and users?
- How will it create value for the business?
- Can we buy it instead of building it?
- How can we make sure that our customers would love it?
- Will our customers know how to use it?
- Can our business support it (e.g., legal, finances)?
- Is it feasible? Can we build it?
- How can we bring it to the market? Do we have the required channels?
- Should we do it at all? Are there any ethical considerations?
- What are the riskiest assumptions? How can we validate them?
- What does the data tell us?
- How can we get maximum validating learning with minimum effort?
Be curious. Learn and experiment. Question solutions and push back on things handled down.
Remember that product management is about creating a "product customers love, yet also works for our business" (Marty Cagan, Inspired), not about pleasing stakeholders.
