You can just do things.
I’m lucky enough to live close to an incredible little park that has been adopted by local volunteers.
On Saturday we removed a metal shutter that’s been in place for 30 years and installed a new window. One of many such micro-projects undertaken every year.
There are lots of skilled people out there, who by dedicating just one day a month can really help improve their local community.
There really is a need for:
1) Matching volunteers with local projects
2) Communicating this need and the outcomes
3) Councils cutting the red tape and allowing locals to just get on with it
Makes me wonder if there is a framework that could be developed and shared with local councils.

We're delighted to launch our new grants scheme, supporting the Burley, Harehills, Seacroft & Wortley communities to use and shape their local park on their own terms! https://t.co/1GZ1IgVCkU
Today ICON launches its interim report, Think Neighbourhoods.
The report identifies 613 ‘mission critical’ neighbourhoods that have around 1 million people living in them and furthest away from progress on government missions.
We need to target support at these areas so that they can be mission ready and make progress on the government’s agenda.

Thanks to our great commissioners!
Leeds is probably the most unlucky city in Western Europe
🎭 European City of Culture funding? Sorry we're leaving the EU.
🚄HS2? Sorry we spent too much in the chilterns.
🛫New Airport terminal? Sorry that's not climate friendly, but London Airport expansions are fine.

Employment by central government, local government, and public corporations since 1949 in Britain. Just did the 2024 update. What a huge change in the composition of the state. I have some very political views about the big changes, but I'll leave them for another thread.
As we reach the end of 2024, we're celebrating the community-led activity supported in parks this year! From hip hop workshops to community planting days, more than 350 volunteer hours have been given to connect 2,300 residents to their local park. With thanks to @HeritageFundUK
Once upon a time, Leeds had trams, lots of them. They helped people get to work, come to the centre to shops and to meet each other for work and play. But then, catastrophically, for the city's long term future and prosperity in 1959....
Earlier this week, we launched the third round of our Community Park Activity Grants with thanks to @HeritageFundUK and @TNLUK Players!
This round we're giving away up to £10,000 across projects taking place in Stanningley Park and Hunslet Moor Park.
One year today since the felling of the Sycamore Gap tree. We are giving the saplings grown from it to communities and people in need of hope.
