Sanitation workers in Ceuta, Spain, have accused illegal migrants of killing and mutilating animals, telling Spanish television they have discovered cats “cut in half” and dismembered and revealing some were killed not for food but “for pleasure.”

One worker said they were finding dead cats and seagulls and referenced the recent death of a dolphin. Another said workers receive insults and threats while cleaning areas affected by Ceuta’s recent migration surge.

“Here they kill cats sometimes even just for pleasure,” one worker said, arguing that the animals were not being killed because of hunger because migrants receive food daily. She described the nighttime situation by saying migrants “come out like a plague” and “have to entertain themselves with something.”
