When the history of modern India is written, a special chapter will undoubtedly be dedicated to the political genius, extraordinary acumen and seminal contributions of Shri Amit Shah to our nation.

Over the last decade, I have had the privilege of interacting closely with several political leaders. I can say with conviction that it is exceedingly rare to find someone with the intellectual depth, breadth of knowledge and extraordinary ability to translate ideas into action that Shri Amit Shah possesses.

He is a serious student of history, deeply immersed in India’s civilizational heritage, culture and philosophy. His understanding of political theory, sociology, anthropology and human psychology is remarkable. What makes him exceptional is his ability to connect these insights with contemporary politics, public policy and governance. His understanding of economics, enterprise and the practical challenges faced by traders and entrepreneurs is equally instinctive.

History has seen great political thinkers, brilliant organizers and able administrators. But rarely do we find all three qualities in one individual. Shri Amit Shah is a profound intellectual and ideologue, an astute political organizer and an exceptionally capable administrator, all rolled into one. This combination is perhaps unparalleled in post-Independence Indian politics.

Every interaction I have had with him has left me inspired and intellectually enriched. He quotes effortlessly from the Upanishads and our ancient scriptures, drawing connections between timeless civilizational wisdom and contemporary challenges. On several occasions, he has personally recommended books for me to read. I have also seen him take a keen personal interest in grooming young Karyakartas and preparing them for greater responsibilities.

The BJP’s historic victory in 2014 and its subsequent consolidation as India’s pre-eminent political force owe an enormous deal to his organizational brilliance, extraordinary understanding of the political landscape and relentless work at the grassroots. His ability to read the political pulse of the country and translate it into organizational strength is simply unmatched.

His work ethic is equally extraordinary. I have personally seen him battle health challenges and yet put in 18-hour working days with an almost superhuman commitment to his responsibilities.

There is also a side of Shri Amit Shah that the public rarely sees. Behind the image of a tough, uncompromising political leader and decisive administrator is an extraordinarily gentle, soft-spoken and warm human being. His personal conversations are marked by affection, patience and genuine concern. One often marvels at how someone so gentle in personal interactions can take the toughest decisions with such unwavering conviction.

History will remember those decisions. From the abrogation of Article 370 and the strengthening of India’s constitutional integration to the relentless campaign against Left-Wing Extremism, the war against narcotics and the resolution of longstanding border disputes, his contributions to India’s national security, unity and integrity will leave an enduring legacy.

Equally consequential is his contribution to strengthening the BJP as a political institution, building its organizational capacity down to the last booth and nurturing a new generation of leaders who will serve India for decades to come.

Few leaders have combined such profound intellectual scholarship with exceptional political instinct, organizational genius and administrative decisiveness. Fewer still have devoted these abilities so completely to the service of a national mission.

On his birthday, I offer my heartfelt wishes to Shri Amit Shah and pray for his good health and a long life.

India needs his wisdom, leadership and tireless service for many, many more years to come.
