@PostFromProtest@TheCrescent52@sjmund@London_W4@juliatetley This another problem with today’s politics, or maybe it’s always been this way: people feel like it’s only winner takes all, but actually the spread matters because it communicates strength of mandate. This is why strategic voting is corrosive.
@RS_Rocket06@tomfgoodwin Basically the same as yield. Stop signs are rare here. Almost everything is the moral equivalent of yield. Much less start and stop traffic here.
@georgeregnery@tomfgoodwin Doesn’t force anything. Loads of people just run 4-ways on low traffic roads because 4-way means the other people are very likely to stop.
@BenGeeMan100@PigWithWings82 Mostly rage bait.
In the UK, heat pumps can receive a government grant. But the grant doesn’t apply if the heat pump is reversible.
Some people post rage bait that that somehow equates to government banning AC.
@BJChippindale@malcolm_reavell The Euro, by Joseph Stiglitz talks about this — essentially he says the Euro zone is in a terrible position because it’s under integrated for the currency union to function properly. It either needs deeper integration, like the US, or multiple currencies
@sjmund@London_W4@TheCrescent52@juliatetley It’s not even odd. People need to get out of the mindset of “voting for a PM” and then treating the PM as if that’s the only person that matters.
@MichaelAArouet You know this is misleading right?
The US only tracks heat related deaths if heat was the cause. Other nations track it if it was a factor. Ie: man had heart attack, heat made it worse.
@chrisbulski@MichaelAArouet Agreed. Every time I have to travel to the US I intentionally try to find hotels where I can open a window and turn off the AC. Getting harder to find.
@AlanJLSmith I actually did that. Lived and worked in the US for 6 years.
I earned more on paper, but quality of life was certainly not higher, roughly the same on average, roughly the same disposable income, but it came with trade offs I didn’t like.
@BobCrauford@Poshtroll@rcolvile Successful countries with low taxes are rare. Singapore is a cherry picked example: it’s a small city state with a total budget of only about $150 billion. Besides, they have the CPF, which is unsurprisingly roughly the same as most countries income tax.
