A deep dive into Primus - The Confidential Infra
Privacy has always been a big part of crypto but hiding data creates another problem.
A fund can’t expose its books onchain. A company can’t show employee salaries. An AI agent shouldn’t leak API keys or transaction history.
Still, that data needs to be verified and used. This is where I think confidential infrastructure comes in
➜ Keep sensitive data private while still proving what matters and computing on it.
Prove the claim + protect the raw data = That’s the direction @primus_labs is taking for onchain finance, AI agents and Web2 data.
A. How did Primus start?
Primus started as PADO Labs around 2022, focused on bringing private Internet data into smart contracts.
Oracles already handle public data well. Private HTTPS data is harder, including CEX balances, KYC, payroll and Web2 credentials.
Primus went after that layer. The team comes from cryptography research. CEO @xxiang_xie worked at O(1) Labs, while @Xavier_bham previously worked on privacy research at TikTok.
The project then moved from research into production:
2023 - Ethereum Foundation & PSE grant
2024 - zkTLS paper at USENIX Security and rebrand to Primus
2025 - raised $6.5m and launched AlphaNet
2026 - expanded zkTLS across BNB Chain, X Layer and HashKey
Imo, the timing makes sense. Onchain finance needs privacy without hiding everything and AI agents also need private Web2 data without leaking it.
Primus sits between those 2 needs.
B. The vision: a trust layer for existing chains
Primus wants to make data verifiable and privately computable. More importantly, it plugs into existing chains instead of moving users and liquidity somewhere else.
The stack mainly comes down to two technologies.
1) zkTLS - verify Internet data without revealing it
zkTLS lets users prove private data came from a real Internet source without exposing the raw information.
You could prove a CEX balance is above a certain amount without showing the exact balance. The same idea works for KYC, transaction history and Web2 credentials.
➜ The app gets the proof. Your private data stays private.
2) FHE / zkFHE - compute on encrypted data
FHE takes this one step further. Apps can compute on encrypted data without revealing it first.
Primus combines this with zkTLS under DVC - Data Verification and Computation.
zkTLS verifies the data. FHE lets apps use it privately.
3) Products already in use
Primus already applies this stack across several products:
+ Proof-of-Reserve: >$72m PoR TVL across 4 production projects
+ Confidential Vault: private assets and yield on @BNBCHAIN
+ Private payroll with @allscaleio: encrypted salaries with verifiable settlement
+ Social payments: claim tokens by proving ownership of X, email or GitHub accounts
+ AI tooling: verify private Web2 activity for agents
Primus also reports 1m+ users and 10+ paid enterprise customers. That’s what I care than another privacy demo.
4) Building where liquidity already exists
Primus has integrations across @BNBCHAIN, @brevis_zk, @nillion, @aztecnetwork, @GoKiteAI, @pharos_network and others.
They bring confidential tools to ecosystems where users and liquidity already exist.
C. In a nutshell
Privacy can hide data. Primus is trying to make that private data useful too. There are still questions around cost, trust and adoption, but I like the direction.
Keep the data private and keep it usable.
icymi, @BitgetWallet just confirmed the biggest CEX hack of the year so far, with $387.5m lost.
And the community is still in panic.
+ Bitget Wallet is safe, the incident only affected Bitget Exchange
+ Withdrawals are paused while security checks continue
+ The attacker took over internal systems and approved transfers from inside
If you're using Bitget Wallet, your assets remain under your control. Users with funds on the exchange are now waiting for withdrawals to reopen.
