@SheilaLoshi Hi Sheila, I also agree with your post. People of this generation would definitely prefer to experience a live performance of songs sung by their favourite artists, rather than being at home and listening to the recording. #F22POPMUS
@LucasHazlett_ Hi Lucas, I definitely agree with your post! Just being in the presence of your favourite artist, surrounded by the audience, makes you appreciate their performance so much more. No recording could ever beat that feeling! #F22POPMUS
#F22POPMUS I have seen many of my favourite artists perform live, and just being in their presence brings the performance of each song to another level. You get to be there and soak in all of the emotions felt by the artist and the crowd. No recorded version could beat that!
@dtrobichaud Hi Danica, I agree with what you have written. When comparing artists and the music that they produce, individuals will refer to one as “inferior” or “less than” to show their interest - which is what the term “schlock” means. #F22POPMUS
@MUSjenna Hi Jenna! I totally agree with your post. White middle-class teen idols would perform clean versions of rock songs in order to appeal to their intended audience. This definitely stripped away all cultural aspects included within the original rock song. #F22POPMUS
Authors considered this music “schlock” because artistically these clean rock song covers weren’t original or creative. White middle-class teen idols would perform clean versions of rock songs that had already been produced, for their own gain. Where was the creativity?#F22POPMUS
@wadlandmun Hi Kayla, I also agree with your response! I think Charles wanted to stand out amongst other artists within his specific music category, and a great way to do this was to express vulnerability through the use of a “breaking voice”. #F22POPMUS
@jjackb02 Hi Jack, I also agree with your response. I definitely think Charles chose to use a “breaking voice” to show a vulnerable side of himself to his listeners, allowing them to relate to his lyrics. #F22POPMUS
#F22POPMUS Ray Charles chose to use a breaking voice while singing the R&B song “I’ve got a Woman” to add an emotional effect to his song and lyrics. This effect also allows Charles to give insight to his listeners, enabling them to feel what he is feeling when singing this song.
@MUSjenna Streaming services have also broadened my music library. Services such as Spotify recommend new music to you based on your recent listenings and playlists, tailoring these new songs and artists based on you. Many new songs I discover are through these recommendations! #F22POPMUS
@emilypine8 I definitely agree that Spotify and Apple Music have both changed the way we access music. These platforms make music accessible to everyone who has a mobile device, and let’s us listen to music from anywhere at any given time. #F22POPMUS
#F22POPMUS A brief background on my music knowledge: My mom was the music teacher in my school when I was in the first and second grade. This inspired me to take on piano lessons as a child, and influenced how important music is for me today in my everyday life!
#F22POPMUS Apple Airpods are a newly developed listening technology. This device gives insight into someone’s social class because their price make them available only for those who can afford it. Since this device uses bluetooth and are wireless, they make music very accessible.
@toaststoat I agree with your tweet! Popular music revolves around these main topics (expensive luxuries, relationships, substance use) and comes off as repetitive. Music artists produce music that will make them the most money, no matter if they agree to the messages being conveyed.
@MarOuterbridge I also agree with your tweet! Instead of creating a meaningful piece, artists are now simply creating music that they think will sell. An industry that was once viewed as the creation of art, is now looked at as a commodity.
Popular music creates a ‘false need’ for what a romantic relationship should look like and what it should entail. Expensive clothes, cars and accessories are also idealized. It does create ‘dumbed down’ music as it all revolves around the same topics and views. #F22POPMUS
