Hi everyone,
I am conducting a study with MUN. I need pianists who have 1/3 pieces memorized (listed on the doc! its ok if you learn them for the study). The study is conducted over three 1h30min sessions.
You will be compensated $50 for each session you complete.
@jenniferrose02#F22POPMUS I agree people do enjoy live music. Maybe it’s more about the concert experience than the actual music, like being around people who like what you like. I believe that recorded music has the potential of different more interesting sounds, it’s the same each time too.
@Benmwilliams03#F22POPMUS That definitely makes a lot of sense, that people would want to simply “get out of their house”, it may also have something to do with being around people who like what you like, I believe though, people prefer recorded music as it has interesting sounds.
#F22POPMUS I agree that people prefer listening to records rather than live musicians. This is definitely because of technological advancements. With new sound technology records have a different sound that is hard/impossible to emulate in live versions.
@KylieFaith21#F22POPMUS I agree with you, schlock rock definitely creates a difference between that version and the original, with the original being much more creative. But what’s the difference between schlock rock and covers, if a person covers a song and sings it differently, is that bad?
@KarlieSquires#F22POPMUS I agree, in schlock rock changing the way the music sounds really takes away from the experience of listening to the song. One way to think of this though is that it makes an entirely new song. Which creates value for the people that prefer that type of music.
#F22POPMUS cultural theft is definitely something that a lot of companies do/have done. I think people like comparing artists, this may be why they call it schlock. To compare one thing that’s “good” with one that’s “bad”. Changes to the song and audience also have an impact.
@Lisa_mus2011 #F22POPMUS I agree, Ray Charles does a good job of conveying his desires through his breaking vocals. With music these days, these topics are still very popular. However, not many artists use this technique. Why? could it be due to a stronger emotion felt by Charles?
@zoemcdonald01 I agree, I feel that his vocal techniques help to convey his emotions about the topic of his songs. These techniques are especially effective when he sings about love and women. Do you think breaking vocals would be effective if the topic or something more trivial? #F22PPOPMUS
#F22POPMUS Ray Charles’ breaking voice shows emotional expression in his music. This is conveyed through his soulful singing as well as his vocal strength. The vocals of his songs represent a deep appreciation and love for the subject of his music, especially other people.
@An_Actual_Clown@zoemcdonald01#F22POPMUS that’s very nice to hear, Music can definitely be a way for people to bond. I think that music is a way for people to express themselves and we see this in the types of music they listen to/play. I think this allows us to better understand others and ourselves.
@KylieFaith21#F22POPMUS I agree, being able to connect with people through music is important way humans connect. Do you think that people would be more inclined to explore other music genres due to this exposure? What kind of music do you like?
#F22POPMUS with the advent of music streaming services, music is way easier to listen to. It can also divide people based on what services they use. I also feel that with subscriptions I’m renting not buying the music, so my music library can be taken away at any moment. Thoughts
#F22POPMUS A false need is the continued (and quick) production of music from a persons favourite artist. Yes, the public is exposed to a dumbed down form of music, we don’t hear songs of different languages or countries, just catchy songs on the radio with meaningless lyrics.
