Flying from Mississippi to Hawaii yesterday it was mostly clear until we got about 300 miles out from the islands. Scattered clouds became a layer at 22k feet that we skimmed across the top of. Checking satellite imagery it turned out to be an extended band from Hurricane Nolo. After crossing through that there were just smaller puffy clouds that looked interesting as we landed as the sun was setting in Kauai. Time lapse below:

Polo's been a Category 5 hurricane for a total of 48 hours so far, longer than any other Category 5 hurricane on record for the Northeastern Pacific. 2026 also just tied 1997 and 1994 for the most Category 5 hours in a single season and should be the new recordholder by tonight.
