Weโre proud to share that our ED, @JAtimango, will be speaking at #WD2026 in Australia
Join this powerful conversation on Powering the Shared Agenda for Action on Menstrual Health & Hygiene and advancing dignity, equity, and opportunities for girls and women everywhere.
By 2040, over 20 million Ugandans will live in citiesโmost of them young.
Yet in Kampala, 1 in 4 girls aged 15โ19 has already begun childbearing.
Urbanisation without opportunity is a crisis.
@KCCAUG#GirlsEmpoweringGirls
Uganda reduced monetary poverty from 20.1% to 16.1% (2019โ2024).
But child poverty remains high at 44%.
We canโt leave the next generation behind.
#GirlsEmpoweringGirls
Today, we amplify the voices of adolescent girls their stories, resilience, and achievements.
From returning to school to starting businesses this is transformation in action.
#GirlsEmpoweringGirls
Alarming situation for adolescent girls in Uganda:
๐น 44% of children live in multidimensional poverty
๐น Only 1 in 3 complete primary school, just 6% finish high school
#GirlsEmpoweringGirls
Happening now
The #GirlsEmpoweringGirls programme close-out event is underway at @KCCAUG Mayorโs Gardens celebrating the incredible journey and achievements of adolescent girls empowered to thrive. #GEG#GirlsEducation
Since 2019, a new approach has been tested in Kampala.
A holistic model combining mentorship, education support, referrals, & financial support designed around girlsโ realities.
#GirlsEmpoweringGirls#UrbanSocialProtection#ForALivableCity
At the core of the GEG Programmeโs success is the โMentoring Plusโ model; bringing together mentorship, education support, referrals, and cash transfers.
Itโs this holistic approach that drives lasting change.

NCDAP in the Budget FY26-27
Together with partners @UNICEFUganda, @CSBAGUGANDA & @UPFPWDS we had a productive engagement with the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon @Thomas_Tayebwa on the non- allocation of funds for the National Child Disability Assistance Program (NCDAP).
Today, CSBAGโs Executive Director joined partners @UNICEFUganda@UPFPWDS in a productive engagement with the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt Hon @Thomas_Tayebwa, on the non-allocation of funds for the National Child Disability Assistance Program (NCDAP) in the FY26/27 budget.
The NCDAP has an initial budget requirement of UGX 15.8 billion, yet has received zero allocation in the NBFP FY26/27โa critical gap that threatens access to social protection for children with disabilities.
#SocialProtectionUg @NUDIPU@ACODE_Uganda@mofpedU@Parliament_Ug
Brilliant! UG has 460k chldrn with severe disabilities requiring intensive support. Ltd early screening, high rehab costs, weak ref systems, & stigma continue to limit their access to essential services, & their future potential. Letโs not leave them behind @UNICEFRepUG
I received members of the Uganda Parliamentary Forum on Social Protection, the Parliamentary Forum on Persons with Disabilities, and partners from @UNICEFUganda as well as @CSBAGUGANDA for a discussion on funding for the National Child Disability Assistance Programme.
Our discussion focused on the importance of sustained and adequate financing to support children with disabilities and their families.
We reflected on the daily challenges parents and caregivers face in providing care, treatment and protection for children with disabilities, often under difficult economic conditions.
I reaffirmed my commitment to the cause and assured the delegation of my full support, as well as Parliamentโs continued support in advancing policies and securing resources that promote the welfare, dignity, and inclusion of children with disabilities.

Behind every statistic is a childโs storyโa child who deserves to be seen, counted, and supported.
Honoured to sign an MoU with @StatisticsUg for Ugandaโs first-ever Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) 2026/27 on behalf of @UNICEFUganda.

Today we celebrate the strength of children with disabilities. Nearly 29M children in our region live with 1 or more disabilities, each with dreams & potential that drive us forward.
We are committed to building systems where every child learns, participates & thrives.
On this #IDPD2025, we recommit to building societies where every child can thrive.
This is possibleโwhen governments, Organizations of Persons with Disabilities(#OPDs), families, and children with disabilities lead the way.
