New paper today in #BiologicalReviews! #Troodontids have famously weird teeth that suggest a variety of #paleodiets in the group. In our review, we suggest new studies to explore this hypothesis and that the ancestors of #birds, #raptors, and troodontids were omnivorous! (1/2)
A study in #BMCEcolEvol reveals Microraptor wasn’t just gliding—it was built for speed. Using 14 fossils, @GrosmouginPaleo & @PalaeoPittman show this “four-winged” dinosaur had flight abilities comparable to modern falcons and shorebirds. #FossilFriday https://t.co/DwHkTg9JEt
Very proud to share my first article as a lead author and to complete the monograph of #Microraptor with its forewing 🪽 after the work from @ChotardMatthieu
Find out how we reconstructed the 🪽 of this iconic animal. More in a🧵

In a study published in BMC Ecology and Evolution, @ChotardMatthieu and colleagues suggest that the metatarsal feathers in the well-known ‘four-winged’ dinosaur Microraptor, resemble a bird forewing rather than a leg, thus revealing its ability to adapt to both trees and the ground.

A new paper I'm on is out today! Led by @fieldpalaeo, we review fossils of Late Cretaceous avialans from the Maastricht Formation. These include the recently described Asteriornis and Janavis, which yield exceptional insights into modern bird origins. https://t.co/ovA41PWl8g
Congrats to @PeiChenKuo2 on the publication of his second thesis chapter! This is a massive investigation of morphological evolution in the avian quadrate across the diversity of living birds. Check it out in Proceedings B, open access! https://t.co/IRqugzKI1L
Finally completed my bird of paradise plate! Checked my records, the work started 3 years ago!!! It was a huge task, my biggest bird plate ever. Sill need to scan it properly, then the designwork of the poster can begin! I would like to wish you all Merry Christmas with it!
Huge congrats to @OliverDemuth who passed his PhD viva today!! Oliver's amazing work on function & evolution of bird wings was worthy of the coveted Red Kite of Honour. This makes 3 PhD fledglings this term, along with @LizzySteell and @PeiChenKuo2! So proud of them all!!!
