@elerianm@nytimes I've been thinking about this one a lot and I would say expected demand suppression coupled with expected political solutions.
Basically people will consume less energy, shift to alternate forms of energy and pressure politicians to reduce the price.
@scottlincicome@nberpubs Yes. Read most of it. It's hard to generalize the conclusion using the older data given that trade policy and tariffs have been so stable since the 1970s.
Trump's exogenous tariff shock is unprecedented, but the conclusion makes sense.
@JustinWolfers Even covering this contributes to the problem. We could be talking about real problems like health care or AI job loss.
Try this for every column inch devoted to Trump post a positive idea of equal size.
Your coverage is part of the problem.
@JustinWolfers So I was arguing with a friend about Trump over coverage in the media. I like the idea of capping credit card interest rates, but the average person does not understand how unrealistic the proposal is. How should the media cover fairy tales? Like health care?
@BBCNewsPR I'm a little astounded by the negative comments. They just had Mustafa sulaman edit the broadcast focusing on AI. There is no outlet like the BBC in the US. I would pay a small fee to listen to the BBC if it was reasonable.
@TheRabbitHole@fentasyl Yes, Dems were completely caught off guard by the surge in immigration after Trump's first term and could not correct course. In addition Dems immigration plan is similar to the Republican health care plan. It doesn't exist.Dems need an immigration plan with limits & enforcement.
@tax Thank you for posting a hugely important article with regard to US tax policy. Excellent reporting as always. Hats off to the reporters. Can you do a follow-up to explain who was taxed and where the money was used thanks
@Chicageaux1804@queensofbravo Look I know what you mean. But you suffer from nostalgia. Thomas Wolfe wrote a famous book called you can't Go home again. The premise is that both you have changed and the place you came from has changed. You must accept the changes and work toward building the community you wan
@cvictorialmurra Writing is writing. Writing is tough. This character. That sentence. The wrong word. Did I make the right point, get the dialogue right or confuse the reader.
The challenge is worth the effort.
Forgot to add that it really shows the mindset of prominent officials in the Trump administration and the language they use during internal discussions.
At 4:07, Navarro calls Lisa D Cook a "Partisan Animal." I could not believe the outright bigotry. Under no circumstances do you call another human an animal.
The host gave him a couple of chances to correct himself.

@ByLazaruss Luck. I always use the term "Luck." Luck is a small factor, but over emphised to hide other benefits in society like class, network and privilage.
