BREAKING: A new report shows big wins for Texas labor in 2023!
According to @BLS_gov, union density in our state went UP. 586,000 Texans are now proud union members, up from 518,000 in 2022.
There’s no doubt about it: labor is on the rise. 🧵
This is why we need a strong trade union movement. The UAW negotiates an excellent contract for its union workers and, lo and behold, Honda and Toyota increase the wages of their non-union workers in the US. When union workers win better wages and benefits it benefits all of us.
Having a union contract means:
✅ Wage increases
✅ Workplace protections
✅ Better benefits, like healthcare or paid time off
✅ and much more!

@SEIUVA512 @Stella4Senate @HollySeiboldVA @VAIsForUnions @SEIU@SEIUTX@32BJSEIU We’re prepared to do WHAT IT TAKES and are sounding the ALARM on airline greed. Members of Congress take note. Our Black, brown, and immigrant workforce are DONE with poverty wages, no PTO, and healthcare we can’t afford. This is what our DEMANDS look like! #SolidaritySeason
Toyota says it's immediately raising the wages of its non-union factory workers, confirming @labornotes reporting.
This comes right after the UAW won historic tentative agreements with Ford, GM, & Stellantis.
A strong labor movement even helps workers who aren't union — yet.
Big up to @Harvard undergraduate and graduate student workers who won their union. These world-class, Ivy League institutions won’t run without us, and we’re fighting to ensure that’s reflected in our union contract! #UnionsForAll
“People drew a line in terms of their expectations. For 40 years, workers have been putting up with low wages and bad jobs. But after coming through the pandemic, many people said: ‘I’m not going to do this any more.’” #UnionsForAll https://t.co/8cKAK9WU3o
NOW: 5,000 @UAW members in Texas are walking out of General Motors largest and most profitable plant, Arlington Assembly.
To the workers- the Texas labor movement stands in complete solidarity with you in this historic fight. #StandUpStrike

Union plumbers, HVAC technicians, and construction workers are training to be substitute teachers so that public school educators can go to the Capitol to defeat school vouchers next week.
A remarkable lesson in solidarity.

I stand in solidarity with the 75,000 health care workers at Kaiser Permanente who are fighting for safe staffing ratios & better wages, benefits & working conditions. If Kaiser can afford to pay its CEO over $15.4 million it can afford to treat all of its workers with respect.
BREAKING: 75K Kaiser workers across multiple states just walked out in the largest ever US healthcare strike to demand Kaiser executives bargain in good faith. #SolidaritySeason
“Governors, like Greg Abbott, are stripping workers’ rights to water breaks away from them during a deadly and historic heat wave.” Listen to @GregCasar explain why we need need federal heat protections for workers.
Today I’m on a thirst strike on the steps of the U.S. Capitol—not drinking water or taking breaks, through rain or shine, in solidarity with our nation’s workers.
Currently there are NO federal protections for workers exposed to heat. https://t.co/iXcUGTnMmF
New figures from the U.S. Census Bureau confirmed Latinos have made up the largest share of Texas’ population since at least July 2022.
The numbers show Hispanic Texans made up 40.2% of the state’s population last summer.

"This is about our fight to thrive, not just survive."
Secretary-Treasurer @AguilarLeonard
Let us honor May Day by uniting against the forces that seek to deny the working people of Texas the security, dignity and respect that we deserve.
When we fight, we win.
