AFP-NC Backs Gas Tax Pause, Says Years of Fiscal Discipline Made It Possible.
Today, we applaud the North Carolina General Assembly for approving a suspension of the state gas tax, made possible by years of responsible budgeting that built a robust Rainy Day Fund.
AFP-NC State Director @TylerJVoigt released the following statement:
“Today’s move demonstrates the value in responsible budgeting. North Carolina didn’t stumble into the ability to give families a break at the pump – our General Assembly built our Savings Reserve year after year by saying no to reckless spending and locking in real relief for North Carolina families. Because they did that work, we can afford to pause the gas tax.
“The gas tax suspension should also serve a starting point for more permanent reforms, such as eliminating the state income tax, levy limits on property taxes, and permanently lowering the gas tax. AFP-NC will continue to look for opportunities to improve government spending, so we can keep lowering the tax burden on North Carolinians.”
North Carolinians are paying too much for health care, and Treasurer @brad_briner is doing something about it.
He's working to lower costs for the State Health Plan, which covers hundreds of thousands of teachers, state employees, and retirees. He's also fighting to end Certificate of Need laws that let big hospital systems block competition and keep prices high.
More competition means more choices and lower costs for families. Watch to see how he's taking on the status quo.
It was great to join @TylerJVoigt and AFP Action today in High Point for their door launch across the Triad. Thanks to Patriots like these, we are knocking on thousands of doors and talking with voters across our great state.
These 5 minute conversations are crucial to our victory this November!
"I can hear you. The rest of the world hears you. And the people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon."
25 years ago, President George W. Bush gave his famous "I can hear you" speech at Ground Zero, just three days after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
With one arm around retired FDNY firefighter Bob Beckwith and a bullhorn in the other, Bush thanked the rescue and recovery workers.
"America today is on bended knee in prayer for the people whose lives were lost here, for the workers who work here, for the families who mourn."
"This nation stands with the good people of New York City, and New Jersey, and Connecticut, as we mourn the loss of thousands of our citizens."
“North Carolinians deserve leaders who will fight for lower taxes, less red tape and education freedom. AFP-NC is proud to endorse these candidates and looks forward to working with them to advance policies that allow North Carolinians to keep more of their hard-earned money.” https://t.co/avA5gZCsQo
“Since December, AFP Action has invested $5.3 million in North Carolina alone. The group began regularly campaigning door to door for Whatley in February.”
Enjoyed headlining the @AFPNC First in Freedom tour in Cary this week. Never forget, NC was the first place where citizens came together to vote for independence from Great Britain.
📍We’re on the move in North Carolina!
Our team will be out in full force with @WhatleyNC today.
Whatley has the backbone to cut wasteful spending to lower costs for North Carolina families.
See you out on the doors, NC! 🚪
From Wake County to Harnett County, veterans across NC-13 have a congressman who went to the mat for them. Thank you, @RepKnott, for voting to support meaningful reforms through the Take Care of America’s Veterans Act.
