📢Local elections on 5 May.
In other news, only 1 out of 359 @Conservatives MPs voted to protect innocent victims of the #BuildingSafetyCrisis from paying for the negligence of @luhc & the construction industry.
The only way YOU can now make YOUR opinion heard on this is to VOTE!
Karim Mussilhy, who lost his uncle in the Grenfell Tower fire, has just finished giving a painful morning's evidence about the immediate aftermath of the blaze.
At the end of his evidence, he gave this speech. It is worth sharing:
🚨 URGENT❗

@team_greenhalgh @Hannah_Gurga @BritishInsurers @BIBAbroker @luhc @BritishInsurers need to show what premiums have been charged on the affected buildings in the UK, what losses they have sustained and what provisions they have made? It’s clear to leaseholders suffering 000s% increases that they have made hay as families suffer. @TheFCA
#ABIconf22 between June 2018 and June 2020 ABI member Zurich paid my landlord £135,908.41 in commission.
Another £51,183.21 went to an insurance broker.
Leaseholders were charged roughly £430 each to pay that £187,091.62 total commission.
When will this end?
If you're a leaseholder or know a loved one who is a @Conservatives
Party member, please do everything in your power to not vote for @RishiSunak in a leadership contest.
He is responsible for prolonging the #BuildingSafetyCrisis & he will ruin us.

The absolute WORST thing any leaseholder stuck in the #BuildingSafetyCrisis can do is vote for @RishiSunak.
Having campaigned since long before most of you even knew about #Cladding, I know that the person most instrumental in NOT solving the #BuildingSafetyCrisis is Sunak.
1/2 Important insurance ALERT: We are hearing more & more alarming instances of buildings with B1 rating on EWS1, seeing their insurance premiums still remain extortionately high.
We also know most blocks remediated with public monies will also only get B1 after remediation.
I too am angry about the Christmas party. But I would honestly like to see some more anger over the fact that the government covered up the risk of dangerous cladding for three decades before Grenfell and still had the audacity this week to pretend it caught them by surprise
The @luhc factsheet showing £60k cost of the #BuildingSafetyManager each year is here(see last line): https://t.co/X3hbyakGqS
If things are bad now, they'll be 10,000 times worse when the #BuildingSafetyBill passes. Service charges will be so high, our flats will never sell again.
1/2 As a result of @DameJudithH treating high rise buildings as chemical plants & oil rigs, each high rise building will have to appoint an unregulated Building Safety Manager, thanks to @H_S_E.
As per govt own estimates, cost to EACH building: £60,000 per annum on average.
I am so tired. Tired of fighting for basic justice & fairness in a so-called developed first world nation.
Never thought a govt of such a nation could cause such immense harm to their innocent citizens.
It has been a shock & eye-opener for someone from the so called third world.
1/2 The insurance premium in this block has increased from £74k to £673k. For a building where the risk remains unchanged, probably less risky than before due to interim measures.
@BritishInsurers says the sector isn't profiteering & @TheFCA & @CMAgovUK refuse to investigate.
Key points from @housingevidence report into #MentalWellbeing & the #BuildingSafetyCrisis🧵
TLDR: Widespread impacts on mental health, relationships, life transitions, & identity. Financial stress & loss of autonomy key drivers of negative impacts

At the beginning of the year I picked up the phone & had a chat with @jennyfpreece & discussed the devastating impact this scandal is having on mental health, snap forward to today & her report, whilst heartbreaking, is a must read.
This is Sophie👇She was sent a bill for £200,000 to fix faulty cladding on her leasehold flat following Grenfell. Had to rewind @BBCNews to make sure I’d heard the figure correctly. £200,000!
This is the responsibility of the builder to fix this. Outrageous! #CladdingCrisis
Just finished speaking to @BBCNews about the impact of the #BuildingSafetyCrisis on mental health. I'll tweet some videos when I get them. I want to raise awareness and give the thousands of leaseholders who are going through this a tiny bit of hope that we might be heard 1/
With support from @irwinmitchell, we've launched a @CrowdJustice fundraiser to look at potential challenges to Govt's failure to protect us properly.
@michaelgove may be reviewing the approach but until we see action we must keep holding Govt to account.

I want ministers to understand while they sit & think or fact find, lholders are being taken to court in breach of their leases for not paying these costs. The 'pausing' rhetoric isn't a reality for us. Bills need paying & we're the ones left to fight them #BuildingSafetyCrisis
