A lot of people in this community were genuinely shocked when they learned this:

I do not own a DGX Spark.

Much of the Spark-specific work I’ve released, including day-zero EXL3 and GGUF quants, vllm-exl3 development, custom kernels, SixCat evaluations, and reproducible serving recipes, has only been possible because incredible people in this community have loaned me access to their own hardware and clusters.

I’m deeply grateful for that support. But borrowed access is temporary and unpredictable. I often have a new model, fix, or benchmark ready, then have to wait until someone else’s machine is available before I can validate and publish it properly.

World is moving towards Inference Engineering. Let's accept this fact.

Yes AI can write the code and do alot of setup things, but that AI is costly. Startups now moving towards hosting their own model in their local server or onprem and they are looking for Engineers who can host those open source models in their server, optimize it to reduce latency and cost, increase throughput, and help those companies be a truly AI first company without investing shitt tons of money.

Companies are paying healthy amount of money for this role, because AI cannot do this job. Inference Engineering needs real Engineers with knowledge of GPU constraints, quantization, Paged Attention, Flash attention, kernel fusion, speculative decoding, etc.

AI can write code for all these but point being is under resource constraints, which parameters and models to choose based on intuition, based on context provided by client, managers, team leads, cloud infra team, these is a decision which can be made by real engineers relatively at low cost. If we give AI all these context, it will not only make bad decisions and gonna cost alot in reasoning, but also it cannot work in hardware as good as a real engineer can do.

Move towards Inferencing Engineering and be future AI proof. Be future layoff proof.
