Tonight on @ABC10, I shared my final thoughts on the A's leaving Oakland and heading to Sacramento.
I wish I could be excited. But I can't. My heart is with Oakland this week.
“John, you’re a serial penny pincher, you’ve destroyed your family’s great name & legacy because of your cheapness”
This sports reporter in Oakland went off on A’s owner John Fisher
Kroger now admits it jacked up milk and egg prices above inflation.
Millions of shoppers had no choice but to accept it.
This is what happens when five companies dominate over 60% of American grocery sales.
Minimal competition means maximized price gouging.
This woman who works at Kroger is homeless, living in a shelter.
Kroger is one of the biggest supermarket chains in the country and made over $2 billion in profits last year.
They're also trying to conduct a $24.6 billion merger with Albertsons right now.

Attended the 80th Commemoration. So grateful that the arc of justice finally touched these sailors. Extremely grateful for the Secretary of the Navy taking action to make this wrong right. If you have family ties to any of the #PortChicago sailors contact the Department the Navy
Police are investigating vandalism at FarmerJawn, a Black women-owned farm in Chester County (PA), after a swastika was spray-painted in the barn. This isn’t the 1st time the farm has been targeted — but owner Christa Barfield stands resilent & won't let HATE deter their success!

88 years ago today, Jesse Owens won his first Olympics gold medal, he humiliated Hitler at the Berlin Olympics by winning 4 Olympic Gold Medals.
Hitler had hosted the Olympics, intending to be a showcase of Aryan supremacy.
—On August 3, Owens won the 100 m dash with a time of 10.3 seconds.
—On August 4, he won the long jump with a leap of 8.06 metres (26 ft 5 in) (3¼ inches short of his own world record).
—On August 5, he won the 200 m sprint with a time of 20.7 seconds, defeating teammate Mack Robinson (the older brother of Jackie Robinson).
—On August 9, Owens won his fourth gold medal in the 4 × 100 m sprint relay when head coach Lawson Robertson replaced Jewish-American sprinters Marty Glickman and Sam Stoller with Owens and Ralph Metcalfe, who teamed with Frank Wykoff and Foy Draper to set a world record of 39.8 seconds in the event. Owens had initially protested the last-minute switch.
#OnThisDay in 1974, Beverly Johnson made fashion history when she became the first Black model to appear on the American cover of Vogue magazine.
When her first managers told her that major magazine covers weren’t going to happen due to her race, she got new managers. She went on to make Vogue’s cover three more times. Within a year, every major American fashion designer began to use Black models.
“My dean gave me permission to model during my work semester, even though I was in the Criminal Justice Department. I don’t know whether I’d ever have become a model if he hadn’t let me do that,” she said.
“The only reason I went into modeling originally was to help out my family, because I knew that money gave you freedom.”
Her success led her to star in television and films, and write health and beauty books. “There’s not a hair extension or a makeup artist,” she later said, “that can make me feel the way I feel when I give back.”

#OnThisDay in 1979, Patricia Roberts Harris began serving as secretary of Health, Education and Welfare under President Jimmy Carter after serving for two years as secretary of Housing and Urban Development. It was one of many firsts for Harris.
She became involved in the civil rights movement while attending Howard University, taking part in a sit-in. She was the first Black woman to serve in the presidential cabinet and the first Black woman to enter the presidential line of succession.
When someone questioned her ability to represent the underclass, she shot back, “You do not seem to understand who I am. I am a Black woman, the daughter of a Pullman (railroad) car waiter. I am a Black woman who even eight years ago could not buy a house in parts of the District of Columbia. I didn’t start out as a member of a prestigious law firm, but as a woman who needed a scholarship to go to school. If you think I have forgotten that, you are wrong.”

On this day in 1920, Henrietta Lacks was born.
Her cells were taken without her knowledge in 1951 and became one of the most important tools in medicine. They became vital for developing the polio vaccine, cloning, gene mapping, in vitro fertilization & more.

I am pleased to announce $521 million in funding for farmers in Mississippi who have been affected by documented discrimination in federal farm lending programs. This significant funding was made available through the #InflationReductionAct.
@LawrenceDCodes@roywoodjr Know that look. My mom wasn’t in the choir but it was my 1st time cooking Thanksgiving dinner, dropped the cleaned turkey, it slid toward the back door as if it was on the run, picking up dust bunnies along the way. I turned, felt the look, 👀 knew I was black, & was scared
One of my greatest memories at the Oakland Coliseum was when Nelson Mandela visited. The house was rocking with an incredible energy. He specifically thanked Oakland, Berkeley and San Francisco to be among the first to support divestiture from S.A. 🙏🏾 https://t.co/YyO3288cJK
