14th CPA Economic Forum, Mr Aggrey Ashaba, Chairperson Governing Council #UCEM, shared how Uganda can maximise the value of its critical minerals and position them as a key driver of sustainable economic growth.

He highlighted the country's vast deposits of rare earth elements, copper, cobalt, iron ore, phosphates, graphite, and uranium, stressing that their greatest value will be realised through local value addition, strategic investment, and industrial development.

He highlighted five key enablers for unlocking this potential:
▪️ Developing and certifying high-quality geological data to internationally recognised standards to attract investment.
▪️ Expanding access to finance through dedicated mineral development financing and incentives linked to in-country value addition.
▪️ Accelerating industrialisation by investing in processing facilities, affordable energy, and transport infrastructure.
▪️ Strengthening national content by supporting local participation across the mining value chain, including artisanal and small-scale miners.
▪️ Establishing a predictable legal and operational framework that gives investors confidence while safeguarding national interests.

👉If there are Ebola deaths in Uganda, state them with source, district, date, and confirmation.
👉If the deaths are in DRC, do not baptise Uganda into another nation’s mortality statistics.
👉If the number is regional, say regional.
👉If the risk is cross-border, say cross-border.

Public health communication must inform without inflaming, warn without wounding, and protect without creating unnecessary panic.

Facts are not decoration. In an outbreak, facts are medicine.
