COACHES — STOP SCROLLING 🚨🚨
This post is worth reading (and re-reading). 📌
Pep Guardiola on what still keeps him motivated, obsessed, and excited to come in every single day — now and in the future 👇
“There’s one thing I’ve always done as a manager.
Watch our last game. Spend 2–3 hours. Watch frame-by-frame, clip-by-clip, action-by-action.
Every action from the opponents and ourselves. To see what we can improve. And I see ‘oh, there is a pattern we have to improve’. That makes me wake up in the morning: ‘Okay, this is what we have to work on so the team will be better.’I have to visualise the team will be better. ‘When we do that, we will be more solid, more consistent, create more chances, concede less, win more games.’In terms of football, we can do better.
The moment I feel it’s done — I can’t squeeze more out of the players, I don’t visualize I can do better — I’ll go home.”
This is the mindset.
👉 Curiosity.
👉 Relentless reflection.
👉 The belief that there is always another level.
I used to coach Oakwood teams.
Not Oakwood White teams. Not Oakwood Elite teams. Not Oakwood Premier Elite teams. Not Oakwood Elite XYZ FC Premier teams. Just Oakwood.
For as much as has always needed fixing in youth soccer, I’m certain things are worse now than ever before.
Find a coach you trust and go w/them.
Forget about acronyms, travel, “exposure”, & do what feels right
If FOMO drives your decision on what club to play for you’re just another victim
If you’re good, & you know how to market yourself when the time is right, you’ll get found
🇦🇷🗣️ Lionel Scaloni: "We are losing the essence of football. Not only at a professional level, but also with kids."
"My children play in Spain and are overwhelmed with information. They receive the ball, and they're already being told what to do."
"There are fewer dribblers because if they barely get the ball and you say, 'Pass it!'... Imagine if Messi, when he was eight years old, had been constantly told by his coaches to "Pass it!" We wouldn't have him today."
"Football has become such a huge thing, everyone reads, studies, and thinks that with that, they can already manage."
"If you tell a 7 or 8-year-old to make a diagonal run, cover defensively... He's seven years old! Let him play with the ball, make mistakes, and when he's 14 or 15, then we can start correcting."
"It's a message for the future. This is a sport, and the beauty of football should not be lost."

Well deserved gentlemen. Proud to coach not only some great players, but even more important, two great human beings, with great futures!
Thank you @TheDayCTsports@GavinKeefe@vickieattheday@BCgenius for all the coverage this year.
Stonington's Sal Alessio is personified as an all-around good guy ... 4.5 grade-point average. But when he gets on the soccer field, he's got game. Alessio is The Day's All-Area Boys' Soccer Player of the Year. #ctbsoc https://t.co/aNda2siK9l
Wow!
Heard of a club that rents out indoor space it has no intention of using to prevent other clubs from offering open play soccer sessions for children.
Some have lost the plot.

4-2-3-1 Formation Guide | Out Of Possession
Building on my previous post, here we are breaking down the 4-2-3-1 formation out of possession ⚽️.
Perfect for coaches and players!

I liked the times when I could schedule a match or training w/out having to ask the players their availability
“back then” the players just showed up - soccer was priority
I had kids drive back from the beach the morning after prom, play, then go back to the beach
I miss that
there are rarely any issues between a youth coach & player/family if both sides are transparent
coach: set clear expectations & hold players accountable
players/families: respect expectations and communicate
when things are grey or hidden it’s a recipe for conflict

It’s less about the answer and more about the question to me. It’s not well thought of and very absentminded to ask this question. Unless you’ve been in the arena you don’t get it and Giannis just exposed a lot of it with his answer. 👊🏼💪🏼
@mattdanaher@independence_sc Great goal! The left backs awareness and timing to get forward, to then play a one time pass into space was brilliant. Thanks for sharing.
A lot of youth clubs are limited in the quality of educational service offered due to staff being stretched too thin. Technical directors/DOCs really shouldn't be coaching their own teams, but instead focus exclusively on overseeing player development projects on a clubwide level
