This is peak desperation and only works for a very short window of time.

Gasoline and Diesel production are HIGHLY CODEPENDENT. We produce much more diesel than we consume and export the excess. If we ban exports, then our national diesel storage capacity will fill up very rapidly. All of that diesel that we would normally export will end up in storage tanks.

Once the tanks fill, we can't produce more diesel. Refiners have to scale back / shutdown production because they have nowhere to store it. That means that gasoline production ALSO gets shutdown / scaled back. You can't produce one and not the other. You can increase or decrease how much you're making of each to optimize the market, but you need to make both at the same time.

The result? Catastrophic gasoline shortage with skyrocketing prices as refiners are unable to run at full rate due to the diesel glut. This cascades down the entire ecosystem. Refiners can't take delivery because they can't refine. That caused oil storage capacity to fill up. In response, O&G extraction firms have to scale back oil their operations because they have nowhere to put the excess. That cascades down to electricity and home heating because 37% of US Natural Gas is a byproduct of oil extraction as opposed to single purpose Nat Gas wells. Decrease the oil output and the Nat Gas output decreases as well. Electricity and home heating skyrocket.

Will this desperate move lower the cost of diesel at the pump in the short term? Yeah. It probably will.

But long term, it's impossible. None of those scenarios that I mentioned will ever happen because it would be suicide. As soon as the diesel storage begins to approach capacity, they'll have no choice but to reinstate exports because the alternative is complete economic collapse of the country.

@IroncladDev Use Wireguard directly. Set up a public-facing gateway and have your work computer and remote workstation connect to it directly. Configure the gateway to forward/masquerade traffic between the two endpoints. You can even use this to access your work LAN.
