Patrick Yingling, partner at @reedsmithllp, said, “The commission’s refusal to follow yet another clear order from the Ohio Supreme Court is unacceptable. The commission is bound by the orders of the court and is not above the law.”
Louisiana's secretary of state has said that the votes for U.S. House races on around 40,000 mail ballots that have already been accepted will not be counted, after Gov. Landry suspended House primaries so new districts could be set. https://t.co/xXR9YHhfsy
Here's what the Utah GOP did:
1. They sued federally to block the new map.
2. They packed the UT Supreme Court, creating two brand new justices
3. They created a brand new “constitutional court” panel that will hear challenges to state law, avoiding the Supreme Court altogether
Normally, when folks try so brazenly and shamelessly to undermine the federal government’s power to protect rights of communities of color, the robes have hoods, too.
The brazenness of this decision is something else. The thousands of litigants who have brought Section 2 claims? The thousands of courts who have decided these cases? Somehow they all missed what these two judges, in their infinite wisdom, finally saw.
Shoutout to the person next to me on this flight who just ordered three vodkas and then with ~30 minutes to landing bought the Wi-Fi and proceeded to do all of his taxes. You’re clearly living your best life.
