There are a lot of things that aren't optimized for when everyone has AI assistants. Muse got me six insurance quotes while I was sleeping and I picked the cheapest one when I woke up. Does Geico really need to spend $2b a year on marketing anymore or just be cheapest?
Did Situational Awareness actually blow up?
Not quite... Let us explain.
Many reports are stating that Leopold Aschenbrenner's hedge fund sold "his entire book" to Citadel. This isn't the entire story.
While Situational was forced to sell much of its positions due to being 4x leveraged, Citadel reportedly purchased only the portion of the firm's public-stock portfolio that was financed with borrowed money.
In other words, Situational Awareness deleveraged.
The hedge fund still holds its positions funded with clients' capital, and still holds a massive position in Anthropic, expected to go public this year near a $1T valuation. (WSJ)
@GrantHesser The business model here is to give some of the worst run companies on earth (YC/other early stage startups) cheap general liability and cyber insurance. Only ends one way.
