On the day the Nobel peace prize recognises international judge Navi Pillay, the US announces institutional sanctions against the ICC.
I am writing this from Nuremberg where 80 years ago, American judges and lawyers played a crucial role in trying the highest Nazi leaders and commanders, and establishing the foundational principles of international criminal law.
80 years later, what a betrayal.
The Trump administration’s decision is appalling.
But ultimately, it is not about them. It is about us. The US grotesque decision is a test for all European governments which have been tiptoeing, shying away from confronting and responding to the predatory actions from the trump administration.
They now need to rise to the moment. History demands of Europe that it stands for international justice and its institutions.
There is only one possible response: impose immediately blocking orders. The US sanctions cannot and should not be implemented on European territory.
This is not a USA moment. This is a “Us” moment. Let’s rise to it.
Because humanity must win.

U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen calls for a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing to investigate the withholding or alteration of U.S. diplomatic reports concerning Israeli violations in the occupied West Bank.
This move follows a New York Times report that David Milstein, a senior aide to U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, intervened in drafting embassy reports or blocked their transmission to Washington.
The report noted that some of the documents addressed escalating settler violence, settlement expansion, and investigations into the killings of U.S. citizens of Palestinian or Turkish descent by settlers or Israeli forces.
@MairavZ@TamarGlezerman@libbylenkinski Maybe focus on something else, @MairavZ. There is an actual genocide going on. An “awful” protest as you term it is not worthy of consideration in this moment. Neither are Israeli feelings and neither is mourning for dead Jewish citizens of Israel, generally. #NotOneTear
Congratulations to Navi Pillay, the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize laureate!
Navi Pillay's commitment to international law, unwavering independence and guiding moral light have made her one of the most respected human rights figures of our time.
Not only does this award honour an extraordinary individual, it comes at a time when everything Navi Pillay stands for is coming under increasing attack, as powerful states attempt to hollow out the rule of law and jettison fundamental international rules and norms.
Here’s the moment she learned the news, captured this morning at the Nuremberg court by Amnesty International’s Secretary General Agnès Callamard.
@danielamram3 This is the core of the society of Israel’s racist Jewish nationalist public. They are xenophobes to the core. They are Nazis. Period. Full stop.
When Jake Sullivan was told of South Africa's opposition to the US's support for Israel's Genocide in Gaza, he responded: "Fuck South Africa"
When the Nobel Committee was told of South Africa's Navi Pillay's work to hold Israel accountable for its genocide, they gave her the Nobel Peace Prize.
This is a rebuke of BOTH the Trump AND the Biden administrations' efforts to undermine international law.
The Nobel peace prize was just awarded to the UN official that found Israel guilty of an ongoing genocide
An extraordinary turning point & a vindication of everyone who stood against Israel's atrocities in Gaza!
Many Israeli citizens were killed by Israeli forces on October 7.
28 Apache helicopters used all their ammunition and had to be reloaded.
Mainstream media will never tell you about the Hannibal Directive.
Here’s our report with @pularjs on what really happened on Oct 7:
Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich:
The thorough cleansing that we are carrying out now in southern Lebanon is unprecedented.
They have nowhere to return to. Look at how it looks.
And by the way, the world isn’t stopping us.
"OUR LIFE, OUR SOCIETY WAS SHATTERED IN ORDER THAT ISRAEL BE ESTABLISHED"
Edward Said, in an archival interview. He died in 2003.
"1948, we lost everything. Every single member of my family was made a refugee in 1948. Not a single member of my family remained in Palestine. My birthplace is now inaccessible to me."
"For many hundreds of thousands of my fellow Palestinians, their native towns, villages, farms are inaccessible to them."
Then the line that explains why he spent his life writing:
"The one thing that is still missing, in my opinion, is that there's a Palestinian story. We're not just the people who happen now to be in exile. Our life, our society was shattered in order that Israel be established."
And his own accounting:
"As a Palestinian born in Jerusalem, my national history and the society of my forebears were shattered in 1948 when Israel was established. Since that time, the better part of my own life, I have participated in the struggle not just to bring justice and restitution to my people, but also to keep the hope for self-determination alive."
He kept that hope alive until 2003. The Nakba he described in 1948 is still being carried out.
Twenty-three years after his death, the camps are still there. The villages are still gone. And the story he said was missing is finally being told. 🧭
If this happened to a Zionist the NYC Antisemitism Task Force would track the perpetrators down & arrest them, but since it happened at a Palestinian’s event and there is no dedicated Islamophobia Task Force, I suppose they’ll be allowed to roam the streets to assault more people
@DSA_Watch@AbdulElSayed is very clearly a supporter of Jewish American life, (and the lives of all minorities). Unlike the anti-Jewish racist, Islamophobic, anti-Arab, anti-Palestinian, xenophobic BIGOT, @RepJoshG !!!!
The young boy in the kippah kicking the elderly Palestinian man who had fallen to the ground is a horrifyingly warped echo from our past. If you don’t understand what’s happening here, it’s because you’ve assumed the role of a Nazi.
