For thousands of years, Jewish people have celebrated Passover and passed the story of Exodus from generation to generation as a reminder that we have not always been free.

After over six months of Israel massacring and starving Palestinians in Gaza and with many still held hostage, many of us are left wondering: how do we celebrate a holiday about liberation as violence is perpetrated in our name?

We’re grateful to be joining with an international coalition of Jewish movements to host Freedom for All seders all over the world  — from London to Chicago to Israel/Palestine. By celebrating Passover together in a unified, explicitly liberatory way, we say to the world that we are steadfast in working toward freedom for Palestinians because of our Jewishness, not in spite of it.

As we recite in the middle of every seder, just before we tell the story, holding the matzah high: “This year there are still those who are not free, next year may we all be free.”

May this Passover bring a lasting ceasefire, hostage exchange, and humanitarian aid for Palestinians in Gaza. Next year in equality, justice, and safety.
