@RingTailed16521@megbasham It would be legit interesting to see some part of the UK secede and make Rupert Lowe their king (kings are more “British” and “right wing” than presidents 😄).
@shrimp_capital@atxmj I wonder what happens if AI data centres keep growing and BTC difficulty keeps decreasing. Perhaps we eventually get to a place where OpenAI or Anthropic is legitimately in a position to do a 51% attack.
Haven’t looked at the data though. ASICs vs GPUs might make it a non-issue.
@jacobmrt@chrisorzy@daniel_ndukwu Counterpoint: SaaS websites follow a very predictable pattern and many would be using the same popular templates for Wordpress/astro/whatever. But it doesn’t matter.
If you have a good hook in your h1 and an interesting screenshot, that matters way more.
@PlauDD@BernieSanders I am not a wealthy investor (yet). I am an entrepreneur and engineer.
These AI companies are providing me with powerful tools that help me deliver amazing products and experiences to everyday folks.
Why would I want to screw then over for that?
@daniel_ndukwu@chrisorzy Was thinking the same. I’ve generated a ton of landing pages using Claude the last couple of months and I’ve started to be able to “smell” pages made by Claude, the same way good copywriters can “smell” AI copy even when it has no emdashes.
@JIM_THE_BOSS_@LundukeJournal Me too, but now Ubuntu MATE seems to have quietly died. No 26.04 release and no explanation about why.
To me, that doesn’t bode well for MATE on any distro long term.
@aggie4life02@BrysonGray Exactly how I understand it, but I don’t think I’ve seen it put that succinctly before. Thank you, I’ll be using this formulation in the future 😄
@ThomasEWoods@FightofFaith I am a settled Protestant, but the best argument I’ve heard for Roman Catholicism is that “Tom Woods and Frédéric Bastiat are Catholics” 😄
@needGod_net I don’t know if “Church of Christ” is different in the USA, but the Church of Christ congregations i know in Australia have a full band with instruments.
@jackvlloyd@KoziJon18476 I’ve gotta dispute Australia at number 4. Super high taxes, taxed on seemingly everything we do and then spending >50% of our after-tax income on a typical mortgage.
Doesn’t feel free at all.
I’m seriously considering moving my family to Florida.
@jackvlloyd It's sad to see people like yourself and Tom have beef. There's so few people who even know what "agorism" is, let alone put it into practice.
I disagree with Bob Murphy on Pacifism but still think he's great. I feel the same about Tom and Catholicism/eschatology/Israel stuff.
@jackvlloyd I once heard Horton say something like "I'm an atheist, I don't really get all the religion stuff, who cares about that."
I thought "Dude... the religion stuff is the primary driver of many conflicts going back to the 600s AD."
Took him with a big pinch of salt after that.
@megbasham I wrote this while studying nouthetic counselling in Bible college: https://t.co/ikQaDAscHn
Still stand by it. Nouthetic counselling is a sharp tool, it needs to be handled with great care. But when that is done, the results can be wonderful.
@dhh@realbriel I would say they both have their place. I mostly release stuff under MIT, but I like that the Linux kernel is GPL. I think it keeps people working together instead of working on 50 highly overlapping proprietary kernels competing for customers.
@BobMurphyEcon This week I asked an ethics professor at a theological college whether his ethics course covered anything about property rights and where they come from.
The answer was no.
I think there is still much work to be done here.
@BobMurphyEcon For what it’s worth, Australians think you guys are insane because you can see a freakin’ BEAR in the backyard and just shrug it off (looking at you @henrybing)
Would rather deal with a big spider than a bear 😆
@ADunaway3000@LundukeJournal Meh, shouldn’t be hard to get an LLM to write you a bash command that sets the value. Or someone can write a CLIcutility to change it in about 20 minutes.
@ADunaway3000@LundukeJournal I’ve looked at how age verification is implemented in systemd. I don’t think it’s a big deal.
My understanding: if you have root access then you can have it report any age you like.
Doesn’t sound any worse than installing widevine to watch Netflix or using proprietary drivers.
@arcticinstincts@peterktodd They look pretty young. Married 10 years, absolute max? Roughly 70-80 books.
That’s 6 years of going to a new place *every single month*.
Logistically, financially, pretty unlikely.
I call nonsense.
