Pentagon has finally ordered US Central Command to finalize preparations for possible major strikes on Iran, according to US officials.

US and Israeli sources say an attack could take place before the US midterm elections in november.

If the US and Israel resume major attacks, the campaign could target Iranian nuclear facilities, energy infrastructure and other strategic sites. Iran could respond with missile attacks, potentially pushing oil prices higher.

Israeli officials believe strikes are more likely after the midterms, although an earlier attack has not been ruled out.
