How do we provoke & improve player/teams behavior?
We set the criteria for the environment and context...Then we allow the situations in the training activity or game to provide the feedback and answers to the problems posed.
Possession | Break Out to Goal | Finish the Attack
📌 Work on the timing of the run and quality pass/finish when through on goal.
⏯️ Set-Up:
➡️ Set up a narrow zone (blue) approximately 30 by 12. Section the zone down the middle. On one side, position the 🔴’s and on the other side, position the ⚫️’s
👕Teams: 🔴’s vs ⚫️’s plus 🟢GK.
🧩 How to Play:
▶️ Coaches serve in a ball to teams alternately.
▶️ The possession team must combine for three passes, then release a runner towards the goal.
▶️ The opponent sends in one player to defend within the blue possession zone.
▶️ A different player from the defending team’s possession box recovers to defend the attacking team’s runner to the goal.
▶️ If a defender wins a ball in the possession box, their team is served a ball by the coach (C), If the defender wins the ball in front of the mannequins, they score in the blue mini goal.
▶️ If the defender wins the ball beyond the mannequins, they pass the ball off one of them to end the attack.
▶️ Once a player has broke out to goal, they return to their box. If a player is defending within the blue possession box, they return to their half of the playing area once the runner has been released.
🚧 Constraints:
🏆Reward: The First team to 6 wins the round.
👨🏫 Review: Quality of pass, timing of breakout run, quality of the finish.
🚫 Restriction: Time limit to score, or the goal doesn’t count.

⚽ Attacking Session: Finishing Under pressure. ⚽️
Academy session focuses on one of the hardest skills in football: making quick, smart decisions in tight spaces and finishing the attack! 🎯
Here’s how it works:
✅ Play starts from the coach to the goalkeeper
✅ Build play into midfield, then push forward into the final third
✅ Once in the attacking zone, the pitch opens up – it’s all about creating chances and scoring!
✅ And if the opposition wins the ball? They look to counter immediately, so they stay sharp at both ends ⚔️
Key focus points:
⚡ Quick thinking & fast decisions inside/around the box
🔄 Great first touch & constant scanning of the space
🧠 Patience on the ball + smart movement
This drill tests composure, awareness, and clinical finishing – exactly what you need to succeed in the final third! 💪

Kelvin Sampson doesn’t mention the word talent once here.
He talks about attitude, effort, body language, and consistency.
Because those are the habits that win.
This clip is a masterclass in what really matters.

Eze wants Safonov to move.
Safanov refuses.
Eze slows and slows but must hit it it eventually.
Safonov still doesn't move.
Eze has to make a late decision.
Which is so often a recipe for a missed penalty.
Game Models try to model the game. And, because every model is always wrong to a degree, I prefer to provide ideas (= a football "identity"). Ideas are explanations about how we want to attack together. The players can take this idea and apply it based on their strengths. The better the idea, the better the outcome can be (no upside limit). Whereas, a rigid game model keeps players within the boundaries of the model (limited upside).
