@andy4wm I am a great fan of yours except for this obsession with 'active travel' which will kill the town and city centres. What climate emergency ? Latest data shows it is something of a myth, certainly not affecting people who voted for you in the West Midlands.
If HS2 was a motorway, it would have been built by now! But because new rail projects are minutely analysed with this "value for the taxpayer" nonsense. If road building was held to the same level of scrutiny, a sizable amount of the road network would still be cart tracks.
@RichardWellings It is not only about small businesses. It is about quality of life. Cars with passengers should be able to pull up to park at the side of the road anywhere. Have a drink go to loo, shop as they wish, have a break,
@OpenChiswickW4 Maybe he's technically correct, in a kind of "Lost items are always in the last place you look, because once you find it, you stop looking" kind of way
Obviously no-one *needs* to drive anywhere in the sense that he won't drop dead if he doesnt; but then no-one needs to cycle, skateboard, pogo-stick, or space-hopper anywhere either.
But on the whole peoples' driving somewhere contributes to the prosperity of society.
Cyclist going to the next Grindr meet or showing off their tight lycra to the other men on their ridie ridies don't help society quite as much.
Remember, cyclists are privileged elites who gentrify the area and also are poor people who can't afford to drive. Car drivers are successful wealthy people but also poor and hard working. And nobody who owns or drives a car also owns or rides a bike
"In medical research, there’s a practice of ending a study early when the results are too striking to ignore. ... When an intervention works this clearly, you change what you do."
@AgileJebrim Oh sorry, the argument posted is so weak that I overestimated the level of thought going on behind the scenes. Still, it sounds great. Keep up the good work, you'll get there one day
@Retroscopic1@OpenChiswickW4 What do you think accessible means? How small a % of the population does a group have to be in your mind before it is OK to discriminate against them?
@JohnDHaslam1@missiecrissie@OpenChiswickW4 Your timeline is dedicated to complaining about cyclists and your first contribution to this thread was an intentional bad faith, sarcastic jibe to show how you don't believe cyclists of different abilities exist. Your post may sound convincing in your own head, so good job John
Mornin’. Today, we’re going to argue about Lime bikes. I just parked my one here in Islington. It’s the green one. I use one almost every day. A brilliant way to get around London. Way faster than a car. ‘But they’re untidy parked everywhere’. Yep, but imagine every Lime bike you see was a car. What an absolute nightmare that would be. And have you seen how awful parked cars make the most beautiful street look? Right, I’m off for breakfast and coffee. Have a lovely Wednesday :)
