Are steel structures strictly mordor themed or are there past civilizations, such as Numenor that managed this as well? Interesting how the most ancient and powerful race is aligned with nature such as the elves while the ultimate evil is aligned with steel. #T503
Thinking about how the hobbits gather the ents to attack isengard. If we look at Saruman as a force of industrialism we can see the ents as nature acting against technological progress. I just wonder if it matters that only the male ents are waging war without the females. #T503
The discussion in class we had regarding aragorns refusal of power make me think he might have been a better choice to become the ring bearer. I admit it always seemed strange to me that they seemed to immediately accept Frodo as the ring bearer when he volunteers himself. #T503
Its interesting how power and corruption play with eachother in LOTR. It seems the more power you have, the more likely you are to become corrupted by either the ring or other artifacts of power such as Sarumans seer stone. #T503
If anyone is interested in the creation mythos for the LOTR series, its really striking how similar it is to the bible, with the one great creator who speaks the world into existence, angelic spirits and the one who brings discord. Morgoth has always seemed so interesting. #T503
Interested in the Tolkien movie coming out. I find it somewhat ironic that its coming out soon after this class. Now ill be able to tell whats real and whats bs. Hopefully anyways. #T503
Am pretty eager to read LOTR for the first time. Just wondering how much more i can expect out of the books compared to what is shown in the movie. Feels like im treating the books as an epitext rather than the other way around. #T503
Thinking about how much of a passive consumer the baggens side of bilbo is in the beginning of โThe Hobbitโ. Heโs so eager to stay home and eat food rather than going out and being an active force in the wider world. He gains so much as a character when he does go out on 1 #T503
Just wondering how different The Hobbit might have been to read if Tolkien wrote it in the same โseriousโ manner as the lord of the rings. Would there be any lightheartedness at all? #T503
Wonder if Tolkien would think of the lord of the rings movies. Maybe he wouldnt like them simply because they dont exactly use the archaic terminology that he prefers in the books. #T503
I find it crazy just how adept Tolkienโs grasp of philology is. To be able to create a coherent language and then craft a poem that (rhymes?) and has some depth to it is pretty awesome. The fact that he crafted an entire mythos that also connects his works shows dedication. #T503
#T503 Seeing small parallel between Tolkien and Edith with Aragorn an Arwen given their forbidden love. Then again thats the movies and im not sure if the books are the same
#L604 Still thinking about Garveyโs choice and just how relevant or applicable the problems he faces are for my myself. Maybe a should start taking singing lessons
