The mortal remains of six persons believed to be among those taken hostage from Leilon Vaiphei village in #Manipur's #Kangpokpi district on May 13 were recovered on Wednesday, June 10, following an intensive search operation involving state and central security forces.

According to official sources, the recovery was made after nearly 24 hours of sustained search efforts conducted by around 450 personnel from the Manipur Police, Central Reserve Police Force (#CRPF), and #AssamRifles. The operation was supported by sniffer dog units and forensic expert teams.

Family members and civil society groups gathered outside JNIMS mortuary to receive the bodies of the six deceased. Security forces initially erected barricades, restricting mourners from paying their last respects, triggering public anger and disappointment. The barricades were later removed.

Two Opposite Ends of Humanity

First of all, I wholeheartedly respect and appreciate our Naga brethren for the humanity they have shown in releasing the 14 Kuki hostages unharmed. There is no religion greater than humanity, and no karma greater than saving lives and helping fellow human beings. May the Lord bless you abundantly for this noble act of compassion and courage.

On the other hand, only the most depraved minds could cold-bloodedly kill innocent human beings after taking them hostage, cutting them down as if they were mere pieces of wood. Such acts stand in complete contrast to the values of humanity and conscience.

Dear Liangmei brothers, may your souls rest in peace, together with the souls of all those who have fallen at the hands of the same evil. May your memories, your smiles, and your innocence remain forever, and may they haunt the consciences of those responsible for the rest of their lives.
