THE NIGHTMARE OF DREAM ADVERTISING

Advertisers are attempting to market to us while we dream. This
is not science fiction, but rather a troubling new reality. Using a
technique dubbed “targeted dream incubation” (TDI), companies have begun inserting commercial messages into people’s dreams.

TDI works by: (1) creating an association during waking
life using sensory cues (a pairing of sounds, visuals, or scents); & (2) as the subject is drifting off to sleep, the association
is again introduced w/ the goal of triggering related dreams w/ related subject matter.

Based on a 2021 American Marketing Association survey, 77 % of 400 companies surveyed plan to experiment w/ dream advertising—by 2025.

This Article suggests that—at least in certain instances—
the practice of branding dreams might already run afoul of existing advertising regulations. To this end, the Article advances 2
claims:

(I) dream advertising appears to fit the definition of subliminal
messaging: advertisements “existing or functioning below the
threshold of consciousness.”

(II) particularly if dream advertising is considered a novel method of subliminal advertising, some
forms of dream advertising may be ripe for enforcement as “deceptive
acts or practices” under Section 5 of the Federal Trade Commission
(FTC) Act.

We are testing whether a new method called slow wave entrainment can can improve sleep quality. In this method, sensory stimuli like sounds are played about once per second during deep sleep. These stimuli prompt the brain to produce stronger slow waves, the brainwaves associated w/ deep & restorative sleep.

Previous experiments in sleep laboratories have demonstrated that slow wave entertainment can improve biological measurements of sleep quality. Based on these results, we are developing software for performing slow-wave entrainment using mobile & wearable devices.

🫁 One genetic test can completely change how some lung cancers are treated

Imagine being diagnosed with lung cancer… and discovering that chemotherapy may not be the first treatment you need.

For about 4%–5% of non-small cell lung cancers (NSCLC), the tumor carries an ALK gene rearrangement. This genetic change can act like a switch that keeps cancer cells growing.

But here’s where things get interesting.
Doctors can use targeted pills called ALK inhibitors to block that cancer-driving signal. One established option is alectinib (Alecensa), which can be used as a treatment without chemotherapy in appropriate patients with ALK-positive advanced NSCLC.

And there’s another reason researchers pay close attention to this drug: the brain. In a major clinical trial, people receiving alectinib had much less cancer progression in the brain than those receiving crizotinib.
The story doesn’t stop there.

Alectinib is also approved after surgery for certain patients with ALK-positive NSCLC. In the ALINA trial, it significantly improved disease-free survival compared with platinum-based chemotherapy.

So a tiny piece of genetic information from a tumor can sometimes change the entire treatment path — from traditional chemotherapy to a drug designed specifically to target the cancer’s molecular weakness.

The future of cancer treatment may not be one treatment for everyone. It may be the right treatment for the exact biology of each tumor.

Psilocybin made human cells live 50% longer.

A new study has uncovered surprising anti-aging potential in psilocin—the active metabolite produced when the body breaks down psilocybin, the psychoactive compound found in magic mushrooms.

In laboratory experiments, researchers exposed two human cell lines (skin fibroblasts and fetal lung fibroblasts) to a 100 μM concentration of psilocin. The results were striking: lung cells took 57% longer to reach replicative senescence (the point at which cells permanently stop dividing and accumulate damage), while skin fibroblasts extended their replicative lifespan by 51%.

These findings suggest psilocin may slow fundamental cellular aging processes, possibly by lowering oxidative stress, enhancing DNA-repair pathways, supporting mitochondrial health, or dampening chronic inflammation—mechanisms that overlap with those targeted by leading experimental longevity drugs.

The benefits extended beyond cell culture. In aged female mice (19 months old at the start, equivalent to approximately 60–65 human years), a single monthly dose of psilocybin dramatically improved outcomes. After 10 months of treatment, 80% of the psilocybin-treated animals remained alive, compared with only 50% of untreated controls. Treated mice also displayed markedly fewer visible signs of aging, including reduced fur loss and graying.

This research marks the first direct demonstration that psilocybin/psilocin can influence biological aging itself, rather than solely producing psychological effects. The authors emphasize that the study used relatively conservative dosing and are now advocating for follow-up work with higher or more frequent administration, detailed assessments of immune, metabolic, and cognitive function, and investigations into whether the extended lifespan corresponds to genuine improvements in healthspan and quality of life.

🇨🇳🚨 NEW CHINA-NEXUS ESPIONAGE BACKDOOR HIDES C2 INSIDE MICROSOFT 365

Cisco Talos has uncovered UAT-11587, a China-nexus cyber-espionage operation targeting government, defense, diplomatic and policy organizations across Asia.

Researchers identified approximately 350 compromised endpoints across a campaign spanning at least eight countries.

Targets include organizations in:

* Taiwan
* India
* Philippines
* Cambodia
* Pakistan
* Thailand
* Myanmar
* Syria

The attackers deploy a previously undocumented Windows backdoor called ANTINO.

Antino is compiled in Rust and supports:

* Host reconnaissance
* Shell and PowerShell execution
* File upload/download
* In-memory shellcode execution
* Persistent remote access

But its C2 architecture is particularly interesting.

Instead of communicating with traditional attacker-controlled command servers, ANTINO uses MICROSOFT 365.

The malware communicates through Microsoft Graph and uses attacker-controlled:

* Outlook mailboxes
* OneDrive storage

as dead-drop command-and-control channels.

That means malicious traffic can blend into legitimate HTTPS connections to Microsoft infrastructure.

Talos also observed highly targeted spear-phishing.

In one campaign, attackers recreated Gmail's attachment-preview interface INSIDE THE EMAIL BODY.

Clicking the fake attachment launched the malware-delivery chain.

The attackers additionally abused:

* Cloudflare infrastructure
* AWS-hosted components
* Microsoft-signed binaries
* DLL sideloading
* Windows diagnostic components

Talos assesses with HIGH CONFIDENCE that UAT-11587 is a China-nexus actor and with moderate confidence that its primary objective is intelligence collection.

This campaign illustrates an increasingly difficult defensive problem:

ATTACKER INFRASTRUCTURE DOESN'T HAVE TO LOOK MALICIOUS.

When malware uses Microsoft Graph, Outlook and OneDrive for C2, simply blocking suspicious domains or IP addresses becomes far less effective.

Defenders need visibility into application identities, OAuth activity, Graph API behavior and which processes are actually communicating with trusted cloud services.
