The Smart Village NCD Healthcare Support Project (2025–2030) ,comes at a critical time in addressing the growing burden of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) in the Busoga Sub-Region.

The project directly responds to several challenges facing Jinja Regional Referral Hospital, as highlighted by the hospital's technical team during the Board Meeting.

Speaking about the project, Dr. Nelson Muzira, the Country Director of SADO, noted that the initiative will support the construction and equipping of a State-of-the-art Diagnostic Centre at Jinja Regional Referral Hospital.

It will also facilitate the renovation and modernization of two dental units and the rehabilitation of the Outpatient Department Unit (OPD) to improve access to quality healthcare services.

Health Centre IVs and Health Centre IIIs across the region will be equipped with modern laboratory equipment and NCD screening tools to strengthen early detection and management of NCDs at the community level.

These interventions by SADO and partners are expected to improve diagnostic capacity , enhance healthcare delivery, and reduce the influx of patients seeking specialized services at Jinja Regional Referral Hospital.

Dr. Yayi Alfred, the Senior Executive Consultant for Jinja Regional Referral Hospital, emphasized the need for strengthening the Hospital's capacity to accomodate cases from across the Busoga region.

He noted that several sections ,including the children's wing, the laboratories(both private and general), the Out Patient Department (OPD), and the emergency ward, need rehabilitation in terms of equipment and infrastructure to enable the hospital function effectively.

When these improvements are made, it will create a friendly working environment for the specialists and improve diagnostic services across board.

Dr.Yayi made these remarks during the Extraordinary Hospital Board meeting held in Jinja District on Thursday, 18th June.
