On July 11th and 12th, 2024, we are running the inaugural Microbial Healthcare Symposium in Brisbane Australia. Microbial life healing life using selected, defined and engineered microbial therapeutics is already changing the way we practice medicine.
For this meeting we are grateful to have confirmed some extraordinary international and Australian speakers including @DrSidMukherjee, Rob Knight, @JeffHasty_UCSD, @ProfGabBelz, @DrAllavena, @ErinSErinS , Abi Marsh, Josephine Wright, Gene Tyson, Lars Nielsen, John Prins, Sam Costello and Phil Hugenholtz and many, many more. Please check out our website https://t.co/zwPrTPrrjs Please save the date, register your interest, and join us in this next chapter of microbial healthcare in Australia and beyond. Registration, the scientific program and accommodation options will be updated very soon. @UCSD_BDL@ucsdbiosciences@UCSDJacobs@AIBNatUQ@cscopyclinic @MicrobaOfficial @BankBiome@NickLee_JLF@Prof_NickTalley@emadelomar
@hmstaudacher It was a delight to meet you Heidi and your presentation was a masterclass. Look forward to hopefully working with you again in the future!
@sciam The concept of vestigial remnants, always makes me wonder what do we have now that our descendants will consider vestigial remnants, their “extra nipple” as it were? Hair? Finger nails? Certain species within our microbiome?
I had brain #MRI scan last Thursday looking for recurrent #glioblastoma (&/or treatment complications). I found out yesterday that there is still no sign of recurrence. I couldn’t be happier!!!!!
Thank you to the fabulous team looking after me so well especially my wife Katie & wonderful family!

In my lab at the @prinsesmaximac, Princess Máxima Center for pediatric oncology (in Utrecht NL), we're looking for a great postdoc to focus on immunotherapy and organoid technology. For more info, check: https://t.co/aqcU9vkLmO
Join us at our symposium https://t.co/GqnCfW7OcT where Prof Jeff Hasty, will present his groundbreaking work on engineering microbes as biosensors. Don't miss this opportunity to learn from one of the brightest minds in the field. We hope to see you there! https://t.co/OFv4p8GUmL

Join us at the Microbial Healthcare Symposium https://t.co/1R7GKvVXWX to hear recent work from @danworthley@JeffHasty_UCSD@PonderingSci Jo Wright Susan Woods. Building on their recent @ScienceMagazine paper, that engineered bacteria to detect tumour DNA https://t.co/Z6BSqzlpVG
“Bugs as Drugs” - in the future diseases will be treated by cells not pills. In Brisbane this July, we’re running https://t.co/1R7GKvVXWX. Oz is the place to run these trials, translate our research and realise this future, now. @BankBiome@DrSidMukherjee@DrAllavena@ErinSErinS
@victornizet Cluster doesn’t quite do it justice - we need a “like a bunch of Vitis vinifera ‘Pinot Noir’” option?! Staphyle (σταφυλή) - “bunch of grapes,” which reflects the clustered appearance of Staphylococcus. Uniting two passions, bugs and wine.
Join us at the July Microbial Healthcare Symposium https://t.co/PDjR2dN4sk to hear new work from @Prof_NickTalley@KnightLabNews@hmstaudacher in a superb session dissecting and discussing luminal factors that regulate gut health and disease. From meals to microbiome to medicine!
Join us at the Microbial Healthcare Symposium https://t.co/PDjR2dN4sk to hear recent work from Gene Tyson @CMR_QUT about compiling Australia’s first comprehensive human microbiome bank. @QUT and MRFF is investing in the future of microbial science and practice. Inspiring stuff!

@mjflepage Endosymbiosis is so strange as to almost be commonplace. This is another wonderful article by @mjflepage. Both fantastic and important. Life is so cool - https://t.co/JjZTf8B4ji
We congratulate the recipient of the AACR Daniel D. Von Hoff Award for Outstanding Contributions to Education and Training in Cancer Research, Anil K. Rustgi, MD.
Dr. Rustgi will present his Award Lecture at #AACR24 on Sunday April 7, 3:00-3:45 PM: https://t.co/joG7cp3SEU
This report is troubling. Australian healthcare is a delicate ecosystem. All healthcare settings including public and private hospitals, private day hospitals, community specialist clinics and general practice are all vital and must be supported. Especially, general practice. In Australia, however, private day hospitals are the foundation of elective day procedures such as colonoscopy. Thus, a competitive private day hospital network is essential for efficient colorectal cancer diagnosis and prevention and to support the #NBCSP. It is not about public and private hospitals it’s about public and private patients. It is about delivering optimal care in the optimal setting. Public hospitals fulfil many vital roles but do not, and cannot, deliver convenient, affordable, reliable and excellent colonoscopy to our community. Private day hospitals must be supported. @JodiLeeFdn@BowelCancerAust@priv8hospitals@qldhealth
The $19bn private hospital sector is in financial crisis, with skyrocketing wages, energy, insurance and debt costs fuelling concerns that more hospitals, health clinics and dental surgeries will close, a secret high-level study has revealed. https://t.co/9rS0vZqxk4
