@CharlesMonsen1@wbmosler@EdwardConard And, make stuff for you at a lower price than you can make it yourself. And, at the expense of their workers’ standard of living. So much winning
@malcolm_reavell@mark_dow After reading Deficit Myth, I went directly from shock to integration - completely skipped denial and depression - when the light went on it was like “now I see why people are so confused trying to make sense of nonsense.” - only frustration is for those insisting on being stuck
This is literally man behind the curtain shit. You may as well click your heels together and repeat “there’s no place like home” about the place with no healthcare, education, housing, good jobs, mail ballots, secure retirement, general welfare of the people. Why create imaginary roadblocks to good policy and good government? Why give excuses for mass suffering and inequality greater than during the Great Depression? Can we please get serious about the real problems and the real tools to fix them? Political will. That’s what we need. The federal deficit is a private sector profit. The question is not the money, it’s who is hiding all of it away from the Monopoly board? (Rhetorical) Can we please have a serious discussion about how we strengthen then the people to have the political will to direct money to the people and away from the greed mongers choking out our civilization and all of humanity??? Cause this isn’t it. Wake up.
All central bankers doing monetary operations know they can't conduct a reserve drain without a prior reserve add- the CB has to credit accounts (spend first) before taxes can be paid/securities purchased as per MMT.
Yet all mainstream economists have this sequence backwards.
@wbmosler@DEhnts Hmmm, I guess that it follows that a freeway has no value because there’s no charge to use it. Same for fire departments, schools, etc
@ilhandogus This is my experience with all of the self-proclaimed "sound-finance socialists." They don't know what they don't know, and they're not afraid to show it.
@wbmosler@DavidMcNab17@meadwaj That’s great phraseology. Let’s riff on it: toxic political rhetoric mixed with mainstream economics is doing its best to destroy the lives of untold millions.
“The only genuine yield-suppression tool the *fiscal side* owns is austerity, and austerity drains the exact profit pool and interest income that this economy, this market, and this administration's growth story are all running on. Bessent can buy the long end in size every other Tuesday. If he actually wants a 3-handle on 10s *without the Fed's help*, the price is the flows.” via @MMTmacrotrader

Pumping more money into the economy through interest payments on treasuries is no different than giving cash to low income households to spend except that it is spread out over a much smaller group of individuals who will spend on bigger ticket items
🇺🇸 Has anyone challenged Warsh’s argument that the appropriate benchmark for the diffusion index metrics should be “the two decades that preceded the pandemic”? Frankly, this makes little sense, given that inflation remained persistently below target over that period. How can this point have gone unnoticed?
So when you read about eight members of an NBC News Team being beaten by Israeli settlers today in the West Bank, it's important to note two things:
1. The settler wouldn't do this to Americans had they not received a green light from the Israeli gov.
2. Israel's gov would not have given such a green light unless it felt confident that the US gov - and Amb. Huckabee - wouldn't lift a finger to defend the Americans.
@wbmosler Like the rest of us, those mainstream economists live day to day as household money managers and want to hold on to every last cent of those gov’t “deficit” dollars to build up their own checking account “surplus”
@StephanieKelton An oldie but a goodie. Any metrics to suggest how much of that deficit spending that was spent by savers to buy treasuries is adding to inflation?
I love ranked-choice voting. I think the Electoral College is broken. I'm all for same-day registration. What's not to love about this? I'm totally supporting @AngieNixon
I’m forwarding this to maintain every possible amount of inertia against undermining Social Security for everyone still working. It is outrageous that there is even a whiff of doubt around paying Social Security to retirees. Do not accept this idea
I’m happy to share this because I don’t care what side of the aisle you sit on, this is a fact.
Speaker Mike Johnson this is for you.
Concerning Social Security payments, my contributions were made for over 50 years on every salary I received. From my first part time job until I retired. I always had a job.
The Social Security check is now (or soon will be) referred to as a "Federal Benefit Payment?" I'll be part of the one percent to forward this.I am forwarding it because it touches a nerve in me, and I hope it will in you. Please keep passing it on until everyone in our country has read it.
The government is now referring to our Social Security checks as a "Federal Benefit Payment." This isn't a benefit. It is our money paid out of our earned income! Not only did we all contribute to Social Security but our employers did too.
It totaled 15% of our income before taxes.
Congress took our money and used it elsewhere. They forgot (oh yes, they knew) that it was OUR money they were taking.
They didn't have a referendum to ask us if we wanted to lend the money to them. And they didn't pay interest on the debt they assumed. And recently they've told us that the money won't support us for very much longer. And now, to add insult to injury, they're calling it a "benefit", as if we never worked to earn every penny of it.
Just because they borrowed the money doesn't mean that our investments were a charity!
Let's take a stand. We have earned our right to Social Security and Medicare. Demand that our legislators bring some sense into our government.
Find a way to keep Social Security and Medicare going for the sake of that 92% of our population who need it. Then call it what it is: Our Earned Retirement Income.
99% of people won't forward this to their timelines…..will you?
Please, for the sake of our country, repost this.
@JulianAndreone Unlike the nego-bots unproductive and vituperative replies above, my question is how do we resource the higher number of healthcare professionals to meet the huge unmet and latent demand and how many years would it take to find and train these people to get them in place?
