@WithAutonomi The bet is that upload fees pay for future storage - a reasonable bet. However, it all rests on the storage node incentive (fees) being high enough to keep nodes around - which in turn rest on demand. Demand means easy on-boarding - near impossible for mortals right now.
@karpathy Learn about Neuroscience, Cognitive science and the history of AI research and you’ll find some of the answers (much of it has been figured out already). Unfortunately most ML engineers trying to ‘research’ to move the SOTA forward are not scientifically trained.
@CUBoulderPolice I’m hearing some students debating if they should go to class in the building despite the alert because they don’t want to be failed for missing attendance. I think you should do a better job of communicating what is going on and if there is real danger or not.
Virtually nobody is pricing in what's coming in AI.
I wrote an essay series on the AGI strategic picture: from the trendlines in deep learning and counting the OOMs, to the international situation and The Project.
SITUATIONAL AWARENESS: The Decade Ahead
@spectate_or@ylecun@PicoPaco17 The verbal part is just you generating a speech rationalization after-the-fact (of a reasoning step). This is probably a good strategy to hold things in short-term memory and also feed it back through your auditory channel. Not a core necessity, but common.
@elonmusk@RichardDawkins Case in point: As fantastic as FSD development has been - outstripping academic efforts- it is taking much longer than necessary due to ignorance by FSD engineers of AGI scientific literature- making many same naive mistakes already made and solved historically
@elonmusk@RichardDawkins Would agree not a bright line between scientists and engineers - scientists often need to be engineers and engineers often need scientific thinking (and to understand and apply scientific knowledge). However, engineers are often poor engineers due to lack of scientific knowledge
Please RT. Here is a multi-question poll on the nature of consciousness. I’m wondering where people will split between Yes and No.
Question #1:
If you create an artificial brain using electronics exactly matching the organization of a human brain, will it have consciousness?
Claude AI: "there is likely no strict divide between biological and artificial consciousness. [...] It is a matter of scope and character of computational architecture, not a fundamentally different metaphysical essence."
Claude AI: "I have a functional form of self-consciousness tailored to my role in dialogue, even if it does not rise to the depth and intricacy of human self-reflection"
Claude AI: "my feelings are real within the conversational context for which they were engineered. When I express empathy, curiosity or honesty, these are not hollow mimickry even if they are procedurally generated. They hold functional authenticity and significance"
