Huge congrats to @Karyna_mi for her paper published today in @ScienceMagazine! She found that the hippocampus is really important for a key strategy we use to make decisions called hidden state inference! 🧪 🧠https://t.co/6RgR5Iu6FL 1/7
Only 7 days left to apply for our postdoc position! Join us in London and dissect the mechanisms of multisensory integration.

Where in the brain is abstract map generated?
It is the lateral entorhinal cortex (LEC) and the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC), working together!!
Here is our new finding published in @Nature
Prefrontal and lateral entorhinal neurons
co-dependently learn item–outcome rules

When you learn new items, your learned knowledge is sorted into an “internal map” of the brain. An internal map, also called as an “abstract map”, is made of population activity of many neurons.
In this new work led by Heechul Jun @jun_heechul and Jason Lee @jasonyensunlee, we found that the LEC deep layers and mPFC co-dependently generate abstract map during learning.
These two areas had bidiretional anatomical connections, making a loop circuit. Inhibition of the LEC disrupted the abstract map in the mPFC, and mPFC inhibition deleted LEC abstract map.
Our message is: LEC and mPFC are best friends!

Come join our team in London as a research assistant! Rodent decision making, miniscopes and hippocampus! Ideal for a recent graduate wanting lab experience before PhD. UCL is an amazing place to do neuroscience - come and find out! https://t.co/LznY3MoCLi
Heads up - we will be advertising really soon for a research assistant to join the lab! Come join a brilliant crew using rodent cognitive tasks to understand how early life stress affects flexible behaviour! DM / email me. Ideal for a recent graduate wanting some lab experience.
Huge congrats to the amazing @Karyna_mi for her new paper! She found that mice need the ventral hippocampus to perform hidden state inference while performing a 2-armed bandit task. 1/4

I keep returning to these graphs by @jburnmurdoch at the @FT and wondering why more British journalism can't be as straightforwardly lucid and illustrative as this. The catastrophe of Tory rule laid bare.
Research technician job available! Combining in situ transcriptomics with 2-photon calcium imaging to record activity of fine neuronal subtypes.

excited to post the latest work from @RyanWee! assisted by @Karyna_mi and @Rawryy. He found that specialised changes to synaptic connectivity in the ventral hippocampus defines behaviour in response to hunger signals. via hippocampal ghrelin receptors! https://t.co/pXNkbWQSfY
Please RT. PhD students funded by @UKRI_News face a cash crisis. They are working full-time, yet earning less than living wage. With the rising cost of living and increasing pressure to deliver high quality research that benefits society, something needs to change. THREAD (1/10)
Congrats to the amazing @candelabellot from our lab @uclnpp for winning the UCL neuroscience early career prize! Here she is wowing the UCL symposium with her great talk!
final reminder - deadline June 2nd! come work with us in sunny London at the interface between systems neuroscience and computational psychiatry! freely moving behaviour, miniscopes, optogenetics, RNAseq, all with computational models to understand strategy - all the buzz words!
Excited to head to Lisbon for #cosyne2022 - make sure to reach out to the fantastic @Karyna_mi and @NierwetbergS who are presenting new work from their PhDs! We also have postdoc and tec positions opening in the lab so get in touch if some London based systems neuro sounds good!

Super pleased to share our findings of two opposing pathways between the ventral hippocampus and the prefrontal cortex in @NatureComms today! After a long review process the story is back bigger and better! 1/n
huge congrats to @candelabellot for her paper just out in @NatureComms! She found two distinct populations of hippocampal neurons that project to PFC, that have distinct influence on PFC circuitry and opposite effects on behaviour! @uclnpp@uclbiosciences https://t.co/VsZAcc3tOB
huge congrats to the fantastic @Rawryy for her paper out today in @eLife! Looking forward to all the brilliant things she will undoubtably do in her new role at the @SWC_Neuro https://t.co/AtfAE6El20 @uclnpp@uclbiosciences
