@derek_lpz@abhornUCRedu Prejudice and discrimination is still very prevalent not only in athletics, but in all aspects of our educational systems and beyond. Major changes and improvements are needed to combat these issues within our systems. @annaaacha#ucr150
The Excellence Beyond Athletics model and the Career Transition Scorecard proves great results amongst Black athletes, though it’s a shame that funding is a major factor in why these interventions are difficult to implement in schools. @annaaacha#ucr150
@chadbvel1@abhornUCRedu I definitely agree with your statement! The NCAA's alleged purpose of their programs is said to provide for their athletes. In reality, they only serve themselves. This demonstrates hypocrisy within their claims of their values. #ucr150@annaaacha
Commercialism is a prime example of the exploitation of college athletes. College athletes put in an immense amount of hours into their sport with little to nothing in return. #ucr150@annaaacha
@Jenpurez@annaaacha Hi Jennifer! I agree with you, college athletes definitely deserve more than what they are given. It is certainly clear that the NCAA cares more about their financial and reputation status. @annaaacha#ucr150
Restrictions on a college athlete’s ability to transfer and their benefits makes it more difficult for the athlete to pursue their educational and athletic journey. The NCAA claims to provide guidance towards an athlete’s transference, but does the opposite. @annaaacha#ucr150
@aayal100@annaaacha Hi Alexis!
I definitely agree. Unreported symptoms is a huge problem within our athletics field. Athletes are more concerned about losing the benefits they obtain rather than their overall well-being, and it is definitely upsetting to see. #ucr150@annaaacha
Concussions are a serious matter that should be taken seriously. Although there are policies that exist for the athlete’s protection, enforcement of these regulations should take place. #ucr150@annaaacha
@cortez85218@abhornUCRedu I definitely agree! Improvements have been made within the system, though there are still issues such as gender inclusion within authority spaces that should be noticed. #ucr150@annaaacha
The events that are happening within athletics in terms of gender norms and differences can mirror some aspects of our extended contemporary society. #ucr150@annaaacha
@cortez85218@abhornUCRedu The NLI does seem promising and assuring of a college athlete’s academic career at first glance. Though it would take serious attention to make a change for the better within the system.
The NLI seems like a promising agreement that settles a college athlete’s scholarship. Are there any protections being placed that prevents excess labor from occurring? #ucr150@annaaacha
@cortez85218@abhornUCRedu I agree! I wasn't aware of the limitations that were placed on college athletes in terms of financial aid. College athletes deserve more than what they are given! #ucr150@annaaacha
Colleges seem to obey NCAA regulations for convenience. When will college athletes be respected as actual athletes instead of dulling them merely as “student-athletes?” #ucr150@annaaacha
The creation of the NCAA proves efforts made to protect the academic plans and well-being of college athletes. Nevertheless, it is evident that athletes are still facing struggles today. What solutions can be made to combat these obstacles? @annaaacha#ucr150
