We’re excited to release Tailored Inference, unlocking new frontiers in speed and cost-efficiency by optimising inference to the right models, algorithms and chips.
By leveraging the inherent structure of inference workloads, it allows us to decompose them to discover new solutions with improved cost-efficiency for our partners.
Two years ago, we backed @DanAkarca and @achterbrain with seed funding to explore biologically-inspired neural networks. Since then, they have founded @CallosumAI, which has since become a member of our Scaling Inference Lab.
Today, Callosum have announced a $100M seed round to rethink how we compute for the next chapter of AI.
Huge congratulations to Dan, Jascha and the team. We’re excited to see where you take it next.
Super happy to share some of our results on model orchestration! At Callosum we're investigating how model-hardware configurations behave, how we can model that behaviour, and how we can exploit it optimally.
Today, we are sharing some of our advances in how we utilise heterogeneous compute to push the efficiency-frontier in cost, speed and performance for increasingly complex AI workloads.
It starts with a simple observation: nearly every problem that requires intelligence can be decomposed into sub-parts. Once decomposed, heterogeneity becomes the natural path to greater capability, greater efficiency, and novel solutions.
With our $100M seed round, we announce our first wave of global compute partnerships, flagship among them @cerebras.
Partnerships spanning silicon, infrastructure and geography. The path to intelligence that is orders-of-magnitude better, cheaper, and more sovereign.
Britain is building the future of chips, the foundation for modern AI, an ambition shared by the @CallosumAI team.
Congratulations to @DanAkarca, @achterbrain and team on a major milestone, backed by @UKSovereignAI 🇬🇧
We are live now on Bloomberg TV announcing our $100M seed round to redefine how humanity computes in AI's next chapter 🚀 @business@DanAkarca

Today we're announcing our $100m seed round to change how humanity computes 🚀
AI must be far cheaper, faster and more performant than it is today. Co-evolving heterogeneous compute and intelligence is how we do it.
With our round, today we are announcing global partnerships, new technical advances, and the launch of Tailored Inference to optimise tasks, models and hardware simultaneously.
A future of heterogeneous intelligence, built on principles we see in nature, is coming fast. And we're just getting started!
Today we announce our $100M seed round to redefine how humanity computes in AI's next chapter.
The future of compute and AI is heterogeneous. Callosum is building it:

@CallosumAI is hiring in London!
We're building the infrastructure for heterogeneous compute - making many models, on many chips, behave as a single coherent, co-evolving system.
Five MTS roles open across the AI infra stack. Link below!
The world is betting billions on new chips.
But nobody built the infrastructure to make them work together. @CallosumAI has.
Founded by Danyal and Jascha, Callosum is building an entirely new class of company at the intersection of frontier AI and compute. Their platform orchestrates AI workloads across heterogeneous chips and multi-cloud environments, unlocking step changes in cost, speed, and capability for complex, real-world systems.
Today they’re launching publicly and announcing a $10.25M pre-seed led by Plural, alongside support from ARIA and leading angels.
Proud to back this team from day zero at EF.
A UK company has just come out of stealth to challenge @nvidia's dominance.
To date, AI development has assumed that scaling a single model on identical chips will deliver ever-greater intelligence.
@CallosumAI is betting against that.
The UK startup is building systems-level software that makes diverse chip architectures work together.
It's been founded by Cambridge scientists Danyal Akarca (@DanAkarca) and Jascha Achterberg (@achterbrain), and has just announced raising a $10m pre-seed led by @pluralplatform with backing from @join_ef.
This could be a HUGE company if they execute on this.
The industry is rapidly seeing more chip companies spring up (e.g. Fractile, OLIX, MatX) to challenge the dominance of NVIDIA.
It's amazing to see UK founders build businesses that truly could be ground breaking $100bn+ companies.
How to build a new AI paradigm, with @DanAkarca
A deeply ambitious new AI infrastructure company, based in London, launches today.
@CallosumAI has just raised $10.25m, led by @PluralPlatform, to unlock a world of heterogeneous compute that optimises between performance, cost, speed + sovereignty
If they're right, the implications go well beyond efficiency. If Callosum wins, they will build a global company by redistributing leverage globally, breaking our dependency on today’s dominant AI paradigm & rebuilding optionality across the world

We start with Deep Context Problems - ubiquitous in production AI: sifting dynamic information, sustained reasoning over databases, selecting task-relevant signals at the timescale the task demands. A single workflow here contains fundamentally different computation: rapid generation, deep retrieval, coherence verification, branching evaluation — each with distinct memory, latency, and hardware requirements.
Recursive Language Models (RLMs) helped - models that call themselves iteratively, generating partial results, evaluating them, then recursing to refine or branch. But they recurse homogeneously: same model, same hardware, every level.
We introduce Heterogeneous Recursion.
In Heterogeneous Recursion, a seed model sets the plan and coherence constraints while sub-models handle expansion, retrieval, and verification. Each dispatched to the hardware that fits its compute profile.
Everything here is early evidence for a deeper thesis: as the problems we need to solve grow in difficulty, the systems that solve them must grow in diversity.
Heterogeneous systems - diverse models on diverse hardware, co-evolved end-to-end - unlock scaling territory that homogeneous systems cannot access.
In our next post, we formalise this into a theory - a new scaling principle.
The configuration space is vast and we have only just begun to explore it.
Welcome, Heterogeneous Intelligence.

Today we're launching @CallosumAI out of stealth. I’m incredibly excited.
We think AI & compute is about to change fundamentally.
The current paradigm scaled up on an assumption that single models on identical chips would be enough. That shaped everything - models, data centres, the entire compute stack. It's taken us remarkably far. But what started as a practical bet has hardened into constraints now holding us back.
The problems we need AI to solve - in science, industry, security - won't be solved by a single form of intelligence. They'll be solved by many. Intelligence is heterogeneous. Biology figured this out long ago. AI infrastructure hasn't caught up.
At the same time, amazing new chips are arriving from every direction, each with radically different strengths. But every layer of the stack above them was built for homogeneity. But there is no infrastructure to compose diverse hardware and AI into Intelligent Systems that are greater than the sum of their parts.
That's why Jascha Achterberg and I founded Callosum.
Callosum is the Intelligent Systems Company. We are building the infrastructure where heterogeneous chips & intelligence co-evolve to solve the world's hardest problems.
Our ambition is to open an entirely new paradigm, where diverse chips create algorithmic possibilities that didn't exist before, and new architectures reveal new ways to exploit the hardware.
We've raised $10.25 million. Pre-seed led by @pluralplatform and @soundboy , with 22 world-class investors including @join_ef, Charlie Songhurst, @nickmckeown1, @stanboland, @LawrenceLundy & supported by @ARIA_research. We've assembled an extraordinary team. I'm in awe of the people around me every day.
