Most major sporting events like the World Cup and Olympics often leave the hosting nations with a ton of debt or structures that cost money to maintain but don't get used. Do you think that countries should host even though it burdens their country's economy?
@KIN110UofR This article compares most and least eco-friendly sports. Pro soccer was bad, because players travel via flight. Soccer also is an important part of many countries economies. Is there compromise that can made between environment and economy?

@DemaraKilgour@KIN110UofR I think funding encourages participation, and with more people playing, their is more competition, forcing athletes to adapt and become better.
@victoriasuwala@KIN110UofR I don't think that politicians should pretend to get voters. Instead, if politicians supported what they genuinely were fans of, people would see they are authentic and gain popularity in a moral way.
@KIN110UofR More cities are have started to implement a tourist tax. The money typically funds city infrastructure. In the Netherlands the tax is rising to 12.5% of hotel fees. Do we think this is excessive or for the better of the cities?

@HughNestor2@KIN110UofR I don't think it is anymore. Older populations read the newspaper but most adult, youth and some of the older populations seem to watch TV instead.
@KearaChris27625 @KIN110UofR I think digital media is most used now because you can get on demand content whenever you want vs. TV that follows a schedule and is less convenient, especially to younger audiences.
@KIN110UofR Is there such a thing as having too many options for sports broadcasting networks? Some downsides include paying for multiple services. Or is having the ability to choose a variety of sports beneficial for consumers of niche sports?
@KIN110UofR This opinion article says sports can make people less violent in everyday life by acting as an outlet to be aggressive. What do we think, do people become more or less violent outside of sports by playing them?

The UFC is parting ways the US AntiDoping Agency. Do we think that fighters should fight untested in a sport as brutal as mixed martial arts? Is it considered deviant to take PEDS if the sport doesn't test?
This article explains the situation

@KrewayRyan@KIN110UofR I think that any publicity is good for the NFL because at the end of the day they want as many viewers as possible. More viewers = more money
@KIN110UofR I think the trend of male athletes dressing more flamboyant or feminine comes from the fact that have already proven themselves in their success financially and in sport. Because of that they don’t feel the need to conform to other social norms.
@KIN110UofR I draw on economic capital to participate in sports. Through playing sports I am able to build up social or symbolic capital. For those who can’t afford sport, they miss out on obtaining the capital that comes from sport, giving wealthier families unfair advantages.
@KIN110UofR This article shows indigenous athletes who are reclaiming lacrosse as theirs. The original game was taken by settlers and changed to their liking. I respect how these indigenous athletes are making a change in their community by reclaiming their traditional games.
@KIN110UofR I think it would be productive to hold optional meetings for parents in youth sport leagues. There they could discuss issues and go over proper parental behaviour. Communication is key, because every parent has different ideas of what they want out of their kid’s sport.
@KIN110UofR This article discusses the low pay some UFC fighters receive despite their success. One athlete had to work as an Uber Eats driver alongside a fighting career. Meanwhile, the UFC makes more profit and gives big money to only their top athletes. #Conflict
