We did not give up. We did not stay silent. Today, we moved one step closer to justice.

The Reassessing the United States–Tanzania Bilateral Relationship Act has passed the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and now advances forward.

This moment belongs to every mother who buried a child, every family still searching for answers, every victim of violence, every religious leader who stood firm, every journalist who spoke the truth, every activist who refused to be intimidated, and every Tanzanian who never stopped believing that accountability matters.

This is not the finish line.

But today, the world heard Tanzania.

Today, truth prevailed over propaganda.

Today, hope prevailed over fear.

Today, we moved one step closer to justice and accountability.

To everyone who prayed, advocated, testified, contacted congressional offices, shared evidence, and refused to look away-thank you.

The journey continues, but today we pause to thank God.

Justice delayed is not justice denied.

Muswada wa Reassessing the United States–Tanzania Bilateral Relationship Act umepitishwa na Kamati ya Mahusiano ya Nje ya Seneti ya Marekani (Senate Foreign Relations Committee) na sasa unasonga mbele katika hatua zinazofuata.

Ushindi huu ni wa kila mama aliyempoteza mwanae, kila familia ambayo bado inatafuta majibu, kila mwathirika wa ukatili, kila kiongozi wa dini aliyesimama imara, kila mwanahabari aliyesema ukweli, kila mwanaharakati aliyekataa kutishwa, na kila Mtanzania ambaye hakuwahi kuacha kuamini kwamba uwajibikaji ni muhimu.

Huu si mwisho wa safari.
Lakini leo, dunia imeisikia Tanzania.
Leo, ukweli umeshinda propaganda. (Niliwaambia ile picha ya mkono wa bendera ya Tanzania ikishikana na ya marekani yaliyochapishwa na hayo magazeti yaliyonunuliwa ni propaganda- leo si kimewaka?)

The Court of Appeal was supposed to hear Tundu Lissu’s case tomorrow, June 11. Now they’ve shamelessly pushed it to July 3, another deliberate delay in this political persecution!

Even under our own laws (Appellate Jurisdiction Act), this endless adjournment of interlocutory matters is ABUSE of process. Not justice, but a weapon to keep a leader behind bars.

Below is Meta’s own admission, published through its transparency disclosures, that it was pressured by the Tanzanian government to remove content posted by activists and to delete their accounts altogether.

I am the U.S.-based user referenced in these disclosures. All three reports refer to me, @MariaSTsehai, and @Sativa255.

This should concern every American based activist who values free speech.

When a foreign government can pressure a U.S. technology company into silencing voices that are speaking out about human rights abuses, It becomes a direct challenge to the principles of free expression that America was built upon.

The U.S. government cannot allow foreign governments to exercise this level of influence over American technology companies. If authoritarian regimes can dictate who is allowed to speak on U.S.-based platforms, then the rights of American users and the integrity of America’s digital public square are at risk.

It would be a grave mistake for the U.S. Senate to address the October 29 massacre in Tanzania without also examining the role that @Meta played in helping the Tanzanian government conceal the killings and extend its repression beyond Tanzania’s borders.

When a foreign government can pressure a U.S. technology company into silencing critics, while the U.S. government itself appears unable to protect those voices, it raises serious national security and free speech concerns.

I was sitting in Los Angeles, California, yet I lost my voice on a major social media platform because of actions taken by the Tanzanian government through a U.S. tech company. The repression did not stop at Tanzania’s borders, it followed its critics into the United States.

No government should be allowed to use American platforms to suppress dissent, silence victims, or hide evidence of human rights abuses. Accountability must extend not only to those who commit atrocities, but also to those who enable their concealment.

At the very least META should face fines for its roles in the Tanzania massacre and human rights violations. Meta is an accessory after the fact.

Hakuna serikali inayopaswa kuruhusiwa kutumia majukwaa ya Marekani kukandamiza maoni tofauti, kuwanyamazisha waathirika, au kuficha ushahidi wa ukiukwaji wa haki za binadamu. Uwajibikaji haupaswi kuwahusu tu wale wanaotenda maovu hayo, bali pia wale wanaosaidia kuyaficha.

Angalau, Meta inapaswa kukabiliwa na faini kutokana na nafasi yake katika kuficha mauaji ya Tanzania na ukiukwaji wa haki za binadamu., Meta inaweza kuonekana kama mshirika aliyesaidia kuficha au kuwezesha vitendo hivyo baada ya kutokea kwake.

Why don’t you mention that the woman sitting on stage with Putin is Samia Suluhu, the illegitimate President of Tanzania?

Just eight months ago, she was oversaw a brutal crackdown in which more than 10,000 Tanzanians were killed, before subsequently claiming victory and retaining power.

She is the first Tanzanian president to visit Russia in over 55 years. This visit is not about diplomacy, but about seeking political protection as international pressure for accountability continues to grow from Western governments and human rights advocates.

Ignoring who she is and why she is there leaves out one of the most important parts of the story.
